I was the second bidder on this one... Just to give you all a heads-up, I will be there at the end of the auction trying to snipe this one... Now that its posted here, I'm sure the price will escalate considerably...

bashngu - 2008-08-25 10:44

OMG here we go again. For the love of god NOBODY is EVER going to get an EXCELLENT deal on an M90 on EBAY period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Doesnt matter where you post it or dont post it. Like everybody who looks for boomboxes hasnt seen it? Everybody has seen it way before it was posted here. Good BIN deals are scooped up in the first 5-10 min of a listing. Any BIN that lasts longer than that is only a fair deal at best. Any non-BIN on an item like an M90 WILL BE SEEN BY EVERYONE NO MATTER WHO MENTIONS IT if it goes the duration of the auction. Its the "closet rare" boxes that sometimes end w/ lower bids if they are not "talked up" prior. M90's are not in that category. They have the "king sh1T" status and thats just how it is. So mentioning it here effects nothing.

- 2008-08-25 11:02

Yeah..... Cool

Yes, as well as Waste Management Employee reunions; Glee Clubs; and picnics.

I respectfully disagree.

For example, what about Sinister's M-90 deal last week? If I'm not mistaken, that auction went unidentified here until Ford93 posted that there were 3 hours left in that auction. I had been watching that one as well, as I'm sure many of you were. It sold for just shy of $500, which I think we can all agree is a great price for that boombox.

And while the GF-9696Z is not considered to be at the same level as the mighty M-90, they routinely sell upwards of $300-500 in very good condition. I just bid on and won a very nice looking one yesterday for only $115. Granted the tape deck doesn't work, but it is still in very good shape and quite desirable. Had it been posted as general knowledge here, I firmly believe it would have had more bidders and gone for more money. When was the last time you saw one of those in good cosmetic shape go for less than $300 on ebay.usa?

So, there are two examples for you that are about as good as it gets. Two auctions that were not publicized here, and they ended well below what would be considered "market value."

The problem is, we'll never know for sure because we can't keep our mouths shut on this site when there's an M-90 out there.... (And I'll admit I've been guilty of this too).

I guarantee you there are plenty of people who monitor this site more than they necessarily surf the boombox section of eBay. Personally, I get burnt out on ebay and may go weeks not checking the BBox section, but I'm in here regularly.... and when I see a desirable auction listed here, I most definitely pop straight into ebay... And I am sure I am not the only one with some money to spend on boomboxes who does that. Sometimes, all it takes is one person with deeper pockets to to stay away from an auction for the other guy to get a good deal.

Why do you think pure sellers like that Vlad character sign up here? Many sign up just to post "hey, I've got this and that for sale"? Or to try to figure out what boxes are worth.
It's because they know that they have a focused group of Boombox junkies all in one place, many of which are willing to spend more than your average joe blow on boomboxes.

The bottom line is... hyping it up (or even just mentioning it) here is sure to jack up the price there.

Personally, I'd like to see a network of us engage in a massive PM thread that at least takes away site lurkers ability to view our discussions... Where we can put "dibs" on an auction amongst ourselves and at least try to keep from overbidding each other.

Make up your mind GS... In TPR's thread at the very top of this forum topic, you agreed with Jens???

Whaddupwiddat?

bashngu - 2008-08-25 14:41

EVERYBODY saw the M90. It went for what it went for at the time. You can say its a great price. I say it was a fair price at best for the condition it was in. No miracle took place. I saw it before it was listed here. Anybody else see it beforehand? Read what I said again. There are some "closet rare" boxes which could be potentially affected by chit chat here but it will not be the case with something like this. Everybody knows what it is and how to find it. Let me put it like this. Like it or not, nobody is getting a $100 M90 as long as myself, and about 30 other members that I know of that are watching Ebay. A $500? Yes, you may win that one. A questionable GF-9696 was won for $115.00. Do you think any of us saw it? Yes, we did. We either have one (or two) already in that condition and don't need another project right now, were short on cash, or don't like them to begin with. Either way, it wasn't won by any divine intervention or sloppy scanning on our part.

redbenjoe - 2008-08-25 14:54

jeepers -- can i also get in on this topic ?? Laugh Out Loud

jt -- even though our own Jens --made a very polite request to all our members --
and it was clearly read , understood and AGREED TO
!!!

we still have a group that suffers what what is commonly known as :

"the ebay grail posting syndrome"

i thought / hoped that the final cure was JENS request --but i guess --
that for them thats got that jones Smile

some just "HAVE TO' do it.

___________________

as to whether its right or wrong --
well , thats a toss-up --and quite controversial- !!

since --the matters of whether or not we are really HELPING ebay sellers get a better price --
its is somewhat of an uncontrolled experiment -
so there can be not much definitive proof either way --

ie - then lets assume that bash , royal etc MIGHT be right about there points --

still --i bet 100% of our members will agree that posting these 9 page threads --for all of of the 7 day auction ----

CANT POSSIBLY DO US ANY GOOD !!!!!!
am i right --anyone disagree ?

and that fact alone --should end it --

but it doesnt--???
_______________________

i think you just put up 2 great examples of ebay sales in just the last 2 days --so i hope they dont think your two examples are merely a fluke Smile

i have one more example to add
--and this one IS the killer Laugh Out Loud ready ---??

ok - the ABSOLUTE coolest ebay bidder EVER --

is a terrific member here --in fact , i have been studying his behavior (re ebay auctions) Smile -- for the past few years --he has wiped me out of countless good boxes --
and he is indeed my idol (really)

let me tell you what he does NOT do:

1. he asks for dibs - never
2, he does not announce to us all that he plans to bid $863 for some listed grail !!!
3. in fact -- he posts NOTHING

what he does do :

1, bids to win
2. WINS
3. then , a few weeks later he sometimes posts about it in collections

------------
anyhow --

thats what we call the "shut-up and WIN syndrome "

--
(just my 2 cents )-- peace

jimski - 2008-08-25 14:58

bashngu - 2008-08-25 15:07

I still think we should use my idea and post links to them all. Then everything will even out like it never happened. Plus we can all increase our posts numbers and hit those high marks.
Laugh Out Loud

redbenjoe - 2008-08-25 15:12

Laugh Out Loud Laugh Out Loud

nope --hey i just thought of something -- my idol is so friggen cool --that he has no idea that he is ANYBODYS idol !! Smile

im gonna send him a pm now to ask if i can say who he is --

I agree...Anyone seriously looking for an M90 will watch eBay religiously...What is said here will not change anything...M90s are rare and expensive...That won't change, it will only get worse!

oldskool69 - 2008-08-25 18:31

This is why I don't even worry about an M90. They're good boxes but not worth the money they fetch personally (keyword: personally) as there are way better sounding ones out there in one or multi-piece form. If one sort of falls from the sky would I get it? Heck yeah I would. Will I break the bank? Nope. Smile

Quite possibly everybody saw it, but just decided not to bid. I saw it, but didn't bid because I did not like the non-existant details in the description, nor the fact that he claimed not to be able to answer my question about the unit's condition because it was "already boxed up"....yeah right. Roll Eyes

It doesn't take all that much work to type in the word "boombox" into an Ebay search every Sunday night, and scroll thru all of them and find all the ones you're interested in. I thought this was common practice. Confused

No doubt I will....I didn't know JT was bidding on it or I never would have bid. Actually probably wouldn't have bought it but was BBQ-ing and pounding beers all day and I just threw in a bid thinking I would get sniped at the end. I guess now I'll be getting this one up to 100%...at least I already have one that is 100% to compare everything to...

Ira It won't do you any good if you keep hitting the eject button with a hammer. Press lightly on the eject button with your finger, it will last longer.
