Don't buy this JVC PC-5.....

71spud - 2009-05-08 12:55

OK there is an auction for a JVC PC-5 here.

I would not recommend using this seller. This is the second time they are trying to sell this off. In the first auction here they totally copied a description of a very mint condition PC-5 from a previous auction. The picture in the auction clearly did not match the description. Knowing that I still bid on it and it went for a pretty good deal even considering the condition. I won the auction on 5-3, paid on 5-4 and the seller refunded my money on 5-5 saying I was being too demanding... all I did was ask that the PC-5 be packed securely (with the speakers and handle removed, wrapped in bubblewrap with a sturdy box) I don't know what pushed him over the edge, but even after saying he could take it to a UPS store and have them pack it and I would pay the extra over the $50 I already paid he still would not do it. (Actually $50.51... the seller found the need to "round up" so that the total was an even dollar. Roll Eyes) The weird thing is he relisted it saying he would do all the things I had asked for except the sturdy box.

Here is the communication I had with ebay when I filed a NPS - "non-performing-seller". It includes all my communication with the seller too if you can follow it. Also my note I sent with my PayPal payment that sent him over the edge.

quote:

Customer concern: I purchased this item on Sunday May 3rd. The seller
sent me an invoice on that day and also on Monday May 4th. I paid on
Monday May 4th via PayPal. Then less than 24 hours later on May 5th he
refunded my money saying that----
*************************************************
"i don't think you will be satisfied with my packing or the
ghettoblaster itself so I am refunding you now rather than you be
unhappy of your purchase"
*************************************************
When I paid via PayPal I included recommended packing instructions.
Some sellers seem to be lax when it comes to packing vintage boomboxes
and with the heavy weight of this box if the speakers are not taken off
they could very well break off in transit. This is a standard request of
mine, and most sellers are happy to receive the advice. This is the
note I included in my PayPal payment----
**************************************************
"Note to seller:
Please pack well. The PC-5 needs to be taken apart before shipment.
The speakers need to be taken off the main section and wrapped seperate.
WIth lots of layers of BIG bubblewrap. The handle needs to be take off
and wrapped seperate as well. The main section can be taken part too,
but it is not required. However you must use lots of layers of
bubblewrap on this as well. Also pack in a STURDY box. The last PC-5 I
bought was packed poorly and damaged. Email me a tracking number too.
:-)"
**************************************************
I assumed the seller either had another buyer or was not happy with the
price he received (even though the auction ran its course and there were
6 bids and the item was listed correctly in the right section) When I
asked about that
He said ----
"I have no other motive. only for you to be happy. The demands that
you made leads me to believe that this radio will not be to your
specifications"
I then said ----
" All I asked was that the item be packed safely. For $50 that should
not be a problem. Take it to the UPS store. Taking off the speakers and
the handle takes 5 seconds. Have them pack it with bubblewrap and ship
it out. You have my word that I will pay whatever it costs over $50 if
you get me the bill or have UPS include a copy in the package"
He replied ----
"Its not the $50 and not that I want more money. I am fearful that you
will be unhappy and I don't like the demands you made. I will relist
the same way as I did"
I replied ----
"A few sellers have no idea how to pack so I have to explain what it
takes to send a multi-piece boombox without damage. Most sellers
appreciate that. Take the boombox to the UPS store and send it off like
I suggested and it will be fine. At that point THEY take the
responsibility, not you. And I am going to pay them to do that, taking
the risk off of you. Sounds like a win for you..."
At this point the seller no longer communicated with me. He relisted
the item under item number190305742446. As a final slap in my face he
included this in his description-----
*************************************
ship Worldwide.
The speakers will be removed for shipping and the hanle will also
bedismantled.
Everything will be wrapped in bubblewrap
***************************************
So all my "unreasonable" packing demands are now included in his new
auction. I really don't understand where he is coming from. We both
have been on ebay for since 1998. He should know better.
The only other thing is his original description was much more generous
as to the condition of the item----
****************************************
Here is a beautiful example of a rare classic JVC PCB-5K High End
Portable Component System. This boombox is in excellent working and
cosmetic condition. The faceplate is beautiful and clean and has no
wear. All functions work ,all display lights work,no noise in the
controls,,cassette Deck works great,no drag or muffled sound and heads
are clean..The battery compartment is also very clean with no
corrosion..The cabinet is also like new and all corners are sharp with
no chips, dents, cracks or gouges. Both antennas work fine and are not
broken. The handle is also like new. This radio has been very well cared
for and looks pristine and shows little use. You will not find a cleaner
JVC Boombox and you can also hook up a MP3 .This unit breaks down into 3
pieces and the speakers are detachable
(revised)
i just noticed some minor dints on right edge
*********************************************
And the description he used for the new auction is as follows----
*********************************************
Here is an example of a rare classic JVC PCB-5K High End Portable
Component System. This boombox is working. Not mint but nice
*********************************************
As a buyer I enter into a legal contract. So does the seller. He is
backing out for no good reason. I think his new auction should be
cancelled and he should be made to send the item to me. Or he should be
suspended. But that is not my call. It is yours.

They responded that I should leave feedback and that they would take action against the seller. Not that I can see.... Roll Eyes

That's about it... if you want to take your chances I don't know what you will get or if he will actually sell it to you or not.... Wink

I cant imagine why the guy would renig on the sale. You could be right that its not the same radio that is in his ad and will sell you a boombox that aint as nice the pics. But he really shuld not balk at your requests since you offered to pay and NOW its relisted with your demands in the new auction. Crazy. Maybe give it another whirl and it will pay off.
