RC M90C w/Remote Original Owner

steves.rcm90 - 2009-06-01 12:31

Hi Guys,

I am considering doing what I thought I would never do...Selling my M90 that I purchased new in 1982 along with the rare remote control. I was hoping to avoid eBay if at all possible but if there is no interest here or locally, I will do what I have to do. I just found out that I need a new roof and cannot think of another method of raising the money without borrowing. Anyhow, here is some info on my M90...Cosmetically, I would rate it as a strong 9 out of 10 with absolutely NO major flaws of ANY kind...One of the original antennae is missing the top part (Moving accident when I was 17 and had just bought it only months earlier!) and there are VERY MINOR scuffs here and there, but nothing that deters the "WOW" factor when you look at it! The only issue mechanically, that I am aware of, is that MANY years ago, the cassette deck door started to not eject the cassettes...It became more and more frequent to the point that the last time it happened, I could not get it to open for a long time. It finally did, I removed the cassette and have not tried it since. The door ejects just fine without a cassette in it for whatever reason. I put the unit in storage around 1988 and just left it there. After getting out of the dark ages a few years ago and on the web, I was pleased, but not surprised, to learn of the M90's legendary status. I took it out of storage then brought it to a local tech (The only one who agreed to have a look) who told me two weeks...That was a year and a half ago! I decided enough was enough and picked it up the other day and said thanks, but no thanks. The radio, VU metres, lights, buttons, etc. still work flawlessly! It would also come with an almost complete parts box missing a cassette door and a knob or two and a copy of the original service manual as a bonus. I would be looking to get $2000 USD for the whole package which I believe to be fair based on what I have seen over the years here, on eBay and elsewhere. Any questions/constructive comments are welcome. Pictures can be provided but only if you are truly interested...I am not handy with cameras and computers but would try my best. Thank you,

Steve

no offense man but 2 g's is asking alot. pictures would help as well. g/l on your sale

Thanks for your input...Here is my thought process...M90's, in what I would consider to be HORRIBLE cosmetic shape, sell in the high $100's (Close to and even over $1000 USD) all the time...And you have NO idea on their history or what has been done to them. The last remote I saw on eBay (1 of 3 I've seen in last 5 years or so) sold for $300 USD BIN hours after being listed. Parts are impossible to find and VERY expensive when you do. Mine is a completely original, unmolested and cosmetically BEAUTIFUL unit with a remote, 90% complete parts box and manual. You are 100% correct on the pics...Due to the fact that I am horrible with even the simplest of computer related tasks, I will only make the effort for a VERY serious buyer (I would prefer someone come by and take a look personally...I have NOTHING to hide!). You are entitled to your opinion, but I maintain it is a fair asking price. If everyone feels the same as you do, no worries, I will just keep it and continue to enjoy it!

i understand were your coming from man. im sure its nice but the last M90 ive seen w/remote sold for less than a G regardless you should post pictures. if you need help posting i can help you.

billy.the.binman - 2009-06-01 15:52

seriously dude you are asking alot here, post some photos up - if you cant be bothered to post them or atleast find out how to go about it (its even stated clearly on this site how to post photos) i wouldnt expect many people to be bothered, especially when youre asking $2000.

if it was $200 you could probably get away without photos.

this place is made up of people all over the world theyre not going to hop on a plane to take a look at it or anything, you really need to post up loads on this thing if you want anything near that amount. you want the $$$ at the end of the day you need to put in the leg work to get that coinage

billy.the.binman - 2009-06-01 15:54

that read back as being abit moody, its not meant to be, just saying youll get no where without photos at that price.

You guys have totally misunderstood what I was saying...I know I am talking about a lot of money here, and I would never expect anyone to buy anything without at least looking at as many detailed pictures as possible first! I just wanted to see if there was any real interest based on what I described. That is why I came here first before just putting it on eBay and paying all their fees. If there had been, of course I would then take the time to forward pictures to any interested party. However, based on what you guys have said initially, it would appear that you think that I am off my rocker for asking $2000 for the entire package, REGARDLESS of the condition! Therefore, why then would you want to see pictures?! I dunno, maybe that just makes sense to me?! Again, I'm not looking to piss anyone off...So if the way I am going about this is crazy, so be it...I have owned this M90 with pride for 27 plus years and will just continue to do so. And by the way, when my financial situation improves, I promise I will buy any nice M90 with remote for under $1000...I paid close to that in 1982!

If you are serious about selling it, then ebay is where you may fetch that kind of price as it has happened before.

Most of the people on here will have seen enough M90's come and go and will know that $2000 is over the odds for the items you are selling, in normal market conditions. The cosmetic condition is not the issue here, I have seen various M90's in excellent condition around $1000 (without tape deck issues) - so another $1000 for a remote and a parts box? Maybe my maths isn't as good as yours.

As above though, some ebay folk won't have the same market knowledge or simply won't care - and those are the buyers that may get you to your price. It's the ones you say you see buying horrible condition M90's you mention for $1000 that you want to find!

Good luck

bendycat - 2009-06-02 02:16

put up some pic's - it won't hurt this post, as you say it's looking good with remote and bits Wink

we are not having a go at the price you want as we know that is what you feel it is worth to you - but a lot of members on here see these and there prices all day long and feel that they know what a true price is - if you stick it on ebay, the chance that some one with the money to burn will only pick it up - you will have to drop it $500-$700 to get any collectors on here intrested and then only in the US as shipping will kill it again for any memebers like in the UK Frown

good luck if you put it on ebay, as it would be nice to get that price and feel you sold it for what you feel the right price

again none of my comments are ment to offend Smile

cheers B

Thanks for the input guys...It's what I was looking for. You have convinced me that if I decide to go ahead and sell, eBay will be my best bet. I guess I'm not a big eBay supporter because I have only been a buyer for other vintage items and have been frustrated many times with how ridiculous the prices can get...But I guess the shoe might be on the other foot now.

You understand the arguments then, ebay is typically the place to get crazy top dollar. It's simply a numbers game and ebay exposes your item to more potential buyers, especially uneducated buyers with more dollars than sense, than anywhere else. That means your likely to sell your item for more on ebay than anywhere else, the auction mentallity doesn't hurt the insane prices either.

Good luck, we've all seen what seemed impossible when it comes to ebay prices.

I think it's more a matter of "the proof is in the pudding". If you're going to throw such a high price out there, then you should be prepared to back it up with high quality pics and proof of maintenance and operational condition from the beginning. The deck on the M90 is a royal P.I.T.A to fix, and you cannot prove that it even works since you haven't put a tape into it recently. M90 decks are known to seize when not properly maintained (IE open up the unit and lubricate it). I'd be willing to bet you've never done that or any other maintenance that involved having the unit opened up in 27 plus years.

$2000 is probably a little bit beyond reasonable. $1500 is more what I would expect, and only if the one you owned from new can be verified to be in perfect working order.

You're probably better off just selling the parts unit for $500 or so, and holding on to the other one. Why give up the one you know from day one, for one down the road that has been god knows where?

Good luck on the sale.

I have to agree with PF, I sold the last M90 w remote, so I know what its worth as I pulled it off ebay to sell it to a member here...It needs to work perfectly to get anywhere near that, an M90 just sold for $250 something yesterday! Not many make it over $1000 anymore, and the ones that do work perfectly...Good luck, I think I bought a remote off of you years ago...

transwave5000 - 2009-06-03 01:21

What does the remote look like?
Picture?

Thanks for your "EXPERT" opinion, "DUDE". Good luck in finding a SIMILAR condition M90 (AND, don't forget an almost complete parts box as well!) for $900; Better luck in finding a "BIG DEAL" remote for $175...In this, or any other economy! I did decide 2 weeks ago to "BE REAL" and not sell my items...I will just continue to enjoy them as they are obviously worth more to me than to you! My thanks to all the members who offered constructive advice and help.
