Sorry no link... its the item number above.

It IS actually portable with provision for batteries!!!

Not really a boombox... Or is it?

Highly unusual to say the least.

I hope no one minds me posting up an auction that isnt mine, I just had to share this!

Sharp HK-20PA:

There are a few Panasonic's that are very similar to it. I think they have batteries, or at least the smaller of the two does.

No karaoke function. I'm sure something like this was popular to haul around for exercise classes or small group speaking events.

Ya, that is a strange one Smile

Odd, Interesting and probably usefull in it's day but doesn't seem it would have much use or value to anybody now.

jlf - 2008-12-27 11:25

I agree, what value would it have?

I can see a Jazzercise class getting jiggy to this thing!

It takes like 9 batteries... I considered it as Ive become a SHARP fiend lately... but why?! Smile

Is this one of the models you're talking about?

Thats interesting!

How does it sound? I would imagine its loud if they were used for a PA system of some sort.

Im almost tempted to pick it up for my growing Sharp collection...

monolithic - 2008-12-29 03:18

I don't know how it sounds, but I Agree , it does look it could get loud.

gluecifer - 2008-12-29 04:28

I remember seeing these things in the 80s up in Melbourne. In the city every other store would have some poor bastard yelling into a microphone about how amazing the specials where in that particular store.

They always sounded super loud and super horrible, especially when he had a break and they threw in some random cheeseball 'shopping music' tape. At least it created a wide berth around the entrance as they were brainscramblingly harsh to the ears. Obviously they were banned at some stage as I've not seen that kind of behaviour in front of stores for at least 15 years.

Well, that's my memory anyway. I highly doubt they'd have any kind of quality sound reproduction beyond being loud.

Rock On.

Sounds like the stores of Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Outside (and inside) some electronics shops there's a person yelling about the goods they're selling. Reminds me of old black and white film footage of salesmen shilling "health tonics" and whatnot. Big Grin It's kinda funny that you don't see anybody doin' that (in the States) these days.

But yeah, those boxes don't look they would sound all that good and the mono design doesn't help its cause.
