M90 with ORIGINAL BOX going for an insane price on Ebay

chris69 - 2011-11-17 00:27

How many of you guys have ever seen the original box for an M90 or better yet how many of you own one? This M90 is going for a crazy price and in the first 12 hours of the auction it's already at $2 225.00 with 9 1/2 more days to go. The seller says she has the ORIGINAL BOX but won't ship it in the original box because she no longer has the packing foams. I suspect who ever wins this one is going to want that box!

i find it amaizing how a boombox affects some people, seems that soon as some people see an M90,they immedietly get their penis out and start jacking off in excitement,i could understand it if it was a nice woman, but a box,i really dont get the attraction why someone need to pay such a massive price for something,i think they are a portion of fries short of a happy meal..

This is not aimed at you chris, you only posted the link,i mean the bidders..

isolator42 - 2011-11-17 00:59

woah.

Millionaires form an orderly queue.

OK, an M90 on eBay often brings much heated debate - let's see where this one leads us

...er, charming imagery there, Beanie Man

ghettoman - 2011-11-17 01:31

ha ha sorry iso,its early in the morning,i'm always like this in the morning, its only a bit of a joke post really..watching an M90 auction is like seeing aload of children gathered round a sweet shop, its just all abit silly..i'm making light of this because i know where a thread like this can lead..

like i said,i will always appreciate that the M90,and other boxes are nice sounding, nice quality ect..but come on,its only a stereo, not a house or a car..it makes me laugh when they say the econemy is screwed,e.g everyone says they have no money,no job, cant pay the mortgage, cant afford to eat, cant afford to live, but soon as a M90 pops up on ebay, they all of a sudden whip out a couple of grand..

i know these threads can turn ugly,so i wont say another word lol..

claret.badger - 2011-11-17 01:35

I used to gasp when m90's got 600 bucks or more

I've stopped caring now

it's a tape deck

chris69 - 2011-11-17 02:28

I agree with you 100% lol! I would much rather a beautful woman's "original box" any day especially if it were a minty or near-mint barely used one

It's not the m90 they are after with this auction... it's the ORGINAL BOX which with an m90 is EXTREMLEY RARE.
Who has one or even a pic of one....? I for one have never seen one and i've been into boombox's for alot of years. I had a guy offer to sell me one in near-mint shape a few years ago and he told me he had the original box with his but changed his mind about selling it. I almost cried because it was dirt cheap too

radio.raheem - 2011-11-17 03:43

Funny enough i could claim i had a box.....the seller says he won't send in the box.....and i dont see any pick of a box......who cares anyway Rare yes but you can't play a cardboard box lol

claret.badger - 2011-11-17 04:42

^^^

Exactly chap - NO BOX in pictures
someone is buying a pig in a poke

docs - 2011-11-17 05:34

An M90 in prestine nick is hardly something to be scoffed at. However the price is unreasonable and an M90 has always fetched unreasonable prices and interest. This auction in particular might have the cardboard for the box but none of the foam/protection which to me means this is not worth or is nearly as rare without those as the auction demands.

isolator42 - 2011-11-17 06:17

This is warming up nicely. Keep it up, people

The JVC RC-M90 is the reason I started on s2g.

I was enquiring about the boombox on the cover of the LL Cool J album Radio, & was annoyed when I found out it was the boombox everyone wanted & was very expensive.

So I busied myself finding every boomer I had owned over the years as a kid (5), the boomers my brother owned (3), some that my friends owned, all the Hitachi 3Ds (never really sure why ) & a few others along the way (esp. toyed-up minis).

In a moment of insanity (& thanks to a *very* good £/$ exchange rate) I bought a fully functional but cosmetically imperfect M90 & have never looked back.

It's ace.

People do go a bit doolally about the M90, & it is a bit special, but only in the world of boomboxes.

This is as good as it gets for the King of all boom boxes, the JVC M90.  Specifically, this is the RC-M90JW. I bought this unit new almost 30 years ago.  Unit hasn’t been used much and has been sealed in plastic in a climate controlled closet for the last 20 years.  Annually, I would test to make sure all functions work.  Now it is time for someone to own this piece of history.   Prior to this listing, I tested all major functions and they all work.  This unit is 100% original, complete, and functional.  Only thing not tested is the 2 front external microphone inputs.  There are no noticeable nicks or scratches.  Only cosmetic flaw is some paint finish missing around the power button and the expected foam rot on the battery cover.

I used an iPod, which is shown in some of the pictures, to test the Line In jacks.  Yes, they do work.  Only minor issue is the Phono/Line-In switch which is a little scratchy.  No scratching noise from the Tone, Balance, or Volume controls.   Tape deck works as it should and does not lose speed.  Transport and control buttons are fully responsive.  Search functions tested and working.  Record and Playback functions tested and working.   As a bonus, the original manual is included.  I also have the original box for the unit but will not ship in it because I no longer have the original foam. Item is fully functioning but is sold as is.  US Buyers Only. Fixed shipping of $100.00 includes insurance

Was NOT relisted - sofar ...

isolator42 - 2011-11-17 08:25

This isn't the first time someone's pulled an M90 auction & it won't be the last.

I reckon the seller has done well from an off-line buyer. Not very sporting, but not very surprising either.

I hope the buyer doesn't mind the missing paint from around the power switch

chris69 - 2011-11-17 10:41

My guess is that she received a very high offer between $5000.00 and $10 000.00
Gordie was offered $4500.00 for his first GOLD Conion and he has two now. They are rare but not as rare as an original M90 box...

I would love to see a pic of one

radio.raheem - 2011-11-17 15:42

I dont think anybody in the world has one....not even this seller......i have never seen one in 15 yrs of my collecting

- 2011-11-17 16:24

I have a lil 1 minute video of a box

No it is not a m90 but it is the Next BEST Model

JVC RC-M70JW NIB Boombox

chris69 - 2011-11-17 16:56

They do exist I never seen one but they were not stacked on pallets with no boxes. I know that the guy who almost sold one a couple years ago did have the box and at the price he was asking me..he definately wasn't trying to lie,con or take advantage of me in any way
If he was trying to con me he would have continued to lie and taken my money or asked for about 20x his asking price...

Maybe the NOW included video with a JVC RC-M70 Next to the SEALED box will give you an idea as to the size...

ghettoman - 2011-11-18 01:30

Well i for one is glad that m90 auction is over, save all the bickering and different opinions,i know i always stick my nose in and open my trap, but i try to make light note of things,no M90 auction hurts me because i dont want one..but i do feel for the less fortunate that really want one bad but cant afford one, there is nothing worse than seeing an auction of a box they really want, but all they can do is sit there and watch these auctions go crazy out of their reach, this hobby can be real cruel, the financially well off can afford these things, but all the poorer folk can do is dream,i bet it hurts..its not nice..

and for the people that have all the holy grail boxes, when people complain about box prices, its not always because they are moaning, its more of a "post of pain",i have done it many times years ago,i hated it real bad not being able to afford a box i really wanted..just try to understand more instead of telling them to shut up moaning..its ok for you siiting there with all of the boxes on everyones wish list, you dont feel the pain that they do..its awfull..and its not fair..

Same here I grew up very poor and we lived in low rental housing so me and the other guys on my street were always trading stuff back and forth and back then it was especially boombox's that we traded. The guy across the street was always picking up stuff at the local dump and you would not believe the boombox's that were thrown out back then with only minor problems and some were even excellent shape. I own alot of different ones from the when i was 10 yrs old on. My first boombox radios were actually the old portable 8-track ones that are also collectible now. I always loved boombox's and always will
I'm 42 also...soon to be 43. Man we are getting old hahaha

Yep!

chris69 - 2011-11-18 08:06

radio raheem is right about that James! The price would go very high on ebay even after the fee's you would have have enough to buy your own city bus and go on tour with all your boombox's
