Discolight boom box

ryangascoigne - 2012-03-13 12:37

This is eBay number 220975106263

blufuz - 2012-03-13 12:43

You come here and sign up just to sell your boombox?! Horrible pictures and you won't deal through paypal because of the fees but you want top dollar for it? Paypal is protection for the buyer.....

If I could I would ban you from the site already. FYI, most of the collectors here won't even bid on your item, so you are really wasting everyone's time.

I just checked and he does accept Paypal.. he has no choice with ebay. It says he "prefers Bank Deposit" but i don't think anyone would be stupid enough to do that lol.

I hear ya though...LOTS of Newbies on here lately looking only to sell and some hoping to buy cheap.

i'm with you guys, this is a place for people who share a passion for boxes and other audio gear, not a place for people to come and try to do business!!

blufuz - 2012-03-13 14:20

I could possibly understand if a new member came here and was asking about it to find out more information. Maybe even let everyone know that they have it and would LIKE FOR IT TO GO TO A COLLECTOR instead of some no-namer on epay. Then it would be different. But to come here hours ago, just tell people that you have one, and then your next posting be the ebay auction..... get out of here.

Fishing for "value" or just trying to hype up your auction. You don't belong here.

ryangascoigne - 2012-03-13 14:33

WOW geez guys.

Seriously this is how people are treated here?

I really don’t see what I have done wrong or done to deserve these comments.

I love vintage hi-fi. I prefer amps. I work 2 jobs and am a single dad. I do not have time to sit on forum sites and chat about the likes. I wish I did.

I came to a site where people who like this sort of thing meet...

to sell a thing that people who come to this site like...

I posted it in the 'for sale' section??!

Why have a for sale section that allows new members to post? I wonder is it because without the selling and buying circle of life these vintage items would not be available to other people??

There is really no call to be so rude. I work with books as a day job... these OH MY GOD LESBIAN BOOKS!!!! It was actually 3 books. They were surplus stock and I thought eBay an appropriate place to sell them. Not that it’s really relevant here as I thought this was a space for - quote -

"this is a place for people who share a passion for boxes and other audio gear"

I put the unit on eBay at the price I bought it for about 12 years ago. I bought it simply because I loved the machine.

I need the money for personal medical reasons so yes, I am selling a lot of things I own as I am in need of the money. Again not that I have to explain my cause to this site.

I have a vintage boom box unit to sell that I thought members of a vintage boom box site might be interested in.

I do apologise if I have wasted your time by forcing you to read my post in this forum and reply to it.

I apologise for the pics if they are not what people need to see. I can and will take new photos or video of whatever interested buyers need to see.

I was hoping to avoid PayPal as they have a lot of fees especially if it was local pick up. Like I said I need the money.  I have listed PayPal and have to accept as its eBay.

If I really have done the wrong thing then I do apologise and of course will wait to be removed from the site. It doesn’t seem like a place I would want to spend much time on anyway.

Your intentions were not to become a guest here and enjoy what this site has to offer. You came here to advertise your boombox and then JUST TO LIST IT ON EBAY ANYWAY! All collectors, bbx nerds, our walkman brothers/sisters, watch ebay like hawks and don't need your "help" to find your auction by you listing it here as bait.

Thanks anyway.

Good grief, we are a tough crowd today.

RyanGascoine, can I ask that you cut them 'some' slack.  We are very protective over this site and even more over the hobby.  Unfortunately Ryan we see it all the time, whether your intentions are just to market what you suspect is a valuable item or not many people sign up just to shove their stuff in front of our noses.  I guess we're grateful but in most cases we're not but what I suspect we don't like is newbies who don't even have the courtesy to introduce themselves or their item, some don't even have enough time to bother creating a proper link then there's those like you who can't even bring yourself to write a proper sentence.

This, I suspect is where you went wrong.  Does that make sense?   It's just a question of respect, we're not all just waiting here for people like you to drop by and throw us scraps so we can fight amongst ourselves.

I will say however that I suspect you got a rough ride from some of us, come on guys, keep is squeaky.  I apologise for any comments that crossed the line but you can't really blame them.

So, great, if you have an interest in this topic then I know many members would dearly love to hear about it.  If on the other hand you have something listed on eBay then let us know about it, tell us it's something you're selling on eBay, if it were me I'd maybe say something about it's condition or maybe post a pic on here too to entice members to click on the link you went to the time to post (see above menu), it's just nicer.

I hope this clarifies our position & given a chance we can actually be a really nice bunch

well what he's up to who know's?...iv messaged him on here and on ebay and no reply!

was interested in the box but now feel negative about it....why advertise the item and not respond to messages

lav.loo - 2012-03-14 12:24

i think you may be being ignored deliberately SM because of the comments on this thread??

chris69 - 2012-03-14 12:56

Alot of people are not on the internet every single day ... It often takes people 2-3 days to respond to items for sale.
