Offering Several New In Box or Very Close To NIB Boomers

bashngu - 2012-08-11 17:19

Hi Guys/Gals

Sorry for the length here but bear with me please.

I have come to the decision that NIB boomers are no longer something I wish to pursue or maintain in my collection. As some of you may know my collection is pretty extensive and I am usually not one to sell many boxes but I have come to this decision with alot of thought behind it. Part of the fun for me is actually working on these radios and NIB ones do not offer me that ability in general. At some point I need to narrow down my colection (its inevitable especially if i want to move ever   ) and with alot of consideration, I have decided that the NIB radios should be the place to start.

I want to propose these to the group before I take any action elsewhere in hopes that they go to the right person who will not abuse them and will keep them as they should be. Before I get started I want to clarify a few things. Alot of you already know me and have known me for some time. Whether you like me or not, I think any of you that do know me know that I dont play games and I aim to shoot from the hip. Things are as I say they are. Screwing people is not my forte and I have always taken pride in that. With that said I would appreciate it if there were no flames about my prices (how can u ask that much? blah blah blah) I have been around the block and know my ay around this crazy boombox world we find ourselves in and plain and simple, finding ones that are still brand new (or this close to new) from the 80's is not something that comes around very often if at all anymore. If you dont agree with my prices, terms, or anything else, just remember that you always have the right to just move on. There is nothing requiring you to buy these or agree with me for that matter

I understand that these offerings are going to be for a select few who will appreciate the idea of having these and can also accept the responsibility that comes along. (i.e. dont wreck them lol) It is not my intention to insult anyone with my prices, terms, theories etc....  Please dont call me nuts (cuz we all already know I am)   . I am not in a rush to sell these and there is no desperation here. I am simply trying to plan the future a bit.

I am going to start the list and will be adding a few more as time goes by when I can clear some things out to get to them. In the case of all of these radios I myself have only opened them once from the point I received them which was approx 5-6 years ago and that was to check for damage and perform basic tests. Afterwards they were resealed. At the time I tested them (to my surprise) the belts were all still running the decks. It has been about 6 years since then making the belts almost 25 years old by now. If you are going to ask me if the belts are still good now and if you can just pick one up and play it then you really shouldnt even be considering owning any of these. Even if the decks are still running now on the existing belts, at some point they will not be. Thats when you have to ask yourself the question "do i really want this disassembled to attempt any type of repair?" doing this (no matter how carefully done) could produce results that you dont want.    But to each is own and that is a risk that you will have to decide on yourself as to what you think is best for you.

I have added pictures of the boxed boxes. Please do not ask me to take them out and take pictures because its not going to happen. The buyer will be able to see these boxes in person before they buy them. They are exactly what you would expect them to be. We all know what they look like so me taking pictures is not going to help either of us. If the tables were turned here you would feel the same way.  I am not a bs artist and I am going to be as forthcoming and honest as I possibly can in these descriptions.

First off we have a TRC-931 2nd gen (box, manual, styrofoam, plastic on handle' in plastic bag etc etc... ) This one had never been opened when I received it and I was able to tell this by the tape on the box etc... I am asking $1200

2nd we have a TRC-975 It seems that this one had been opened once before but not used. The styrofaom, manual, plastic bag is all intact. There is no plastic on the handle. (I am guessing it had plastic originally like the trc-931 but I dont have another trc-975 new to compare it to). The top of the box did not have the original tape on it and there is some peeled sticker to one side of the lid so I know I wasnt the first one to open it but I doubt I was more than the 2nd...... I am asking $1500

3rd we have the lasonic L-30K This one had never been opened when I received it. Microphone and everything is there.  I did crack one of the top pieces of styrofoam when I originally pulled it out. (what a clown I am) But the sections are still there.....  I am asking $750

4th We have the extremely rare Cougar J8383-K Discolite. Not only is this box rare in of itself but to have it new like this one is is generally unheard of. This does not have the kind of carboard box that has tape on it it has a flap. But I could tell it had never been pulled out of the box. ....... I am asking a $2000 for this one.

Last but not least (for now) is the elusive Conion TC-999 I am not going to go as far to say this one is brand new. From what I could surmise from this one it was a display model at a store back in the 80's There was a price tag of $289 on the side of the unit which kind of goes along with what the price would have been when found on a shelf in the 80's. The styrofoam and sealed manual is in the box. I have no idea how these came originally to know if there was any plastic around it. Just because Lasonic put them in bags doesnt mean this company did. Not every radio came in bags. It would be my best guess that this was put back in the box after being pulled from display and then stored. You can tell it is unused but has some shelf dust/grime you would expect to see for a radio that spent time on the shelf at a store. I have yet to decide if I am going to take the time to detail it or not. When I opened it I did dry swab a small area of the chrome around the speakers and it gleams absolute newness. If the interested party would rather do it themself then they just need to let me know. The cardboard box is a bit ratty from being stored wherever it was stored and I am going to have to re-tape the bottom because the original tape has lost its stickiness and is coming off. So although I will not call this one NIB I will say it is the closest that you will probably ever find...I am asking $1800

I think one of the reasons that I can potentially part with these is that I have 2nds of the same models in used status (With the exception of the discolite which I do not have another one of) I have a few more that I have not yet decided as to whether I am going to offer them or not.

A few terms and conditions will apply to anyone who may be interested.

1) I am generally firm on my asking prices however someone who may be interested in more than one of these (or ALL) will probably find that there is a little bit room for discussion. You may find my prices to be greedy etc...etc... or you may be of the opinion that they are realistic considering what we are talking about. We have all been down this road before on prices and been through this conversation. Some of you will understand where I am coming from on these and some of you will not. That is life. I know however that there are some of you that will understand this is a rare opportunity and not one that you will find around every corner.

2) I will NOT ship these radios. I realize that this will limit things a bit for many of you and for that I apologize, but shipping them is just not something I am going to do. However seeing that I myself have driven accross 2 states in the past for other radios of lesser caliber I am sure there are a few more of you out there who have done something similar. lol Think of the positive side though. The person who may buy these will be able to see what they are spending their money on first and there wont be any surprises!!! Its good for you as well as me.

3) I am throwing up a one time incentive here to anyone who is interested in buying all 5 and they will get the Lasonic L-30K Free. This offer will be gone once any of the other boxes are sold and any other combo deals/arrangements will be handled on a per case basis.

I am located near the Pennsylvania/Maryland border and am in close vicinity of major highways. If you think you may have interest and be up for an adventure then feel free to PM me and I would be happy to arrange a phone conversation which is much more personable than this. I am not a disagreeable person although I may sound that way in the way that I write sometimes.Any of you who have talked to me in the past in real life know this. And we can do it on my dime in case there are any issues there.

Anyhow, if you have any interest, comments, or sensible questions dont hesitate to PM me. If I don't respond immediately please don't think I am ignoring you, I just dont get to login as often as I would like to. Also please leave any comments here as long as they arent mean and nasty

Peace, Bash
