Selling my rather unusual Sharp GF-990

chhhhh - 2012-09-05 16:14

Hello there...

I'm kindof new to the forum. The main reason I'm here is to find a new owner for my Sharp GF990-G. I have held on to this gem for quite a while but need to fund my postgraduate studies somehow.

I'm sad to see it go but thought best to pass it on to someone who would really appreciate it rather than just throw it up on eBay.

So here it is!

My Sharp GF 900 G.

GF-990G

These were quite rare, especially in the UK where apparently only 100 came into the country. Produced in 1982 they included a rather peculiar "Music Processor"; which was basically a simple sequencer which allowed you to program melodies as well as back up the data to tape for later retrieval.

This comes in it's original (although slightly worn) box with all the manuals and instructions intact. Also included is the original Music Processor tape with sample melodies stored on it.

The boombox itself is in near mint condition, everything works and sounds great. The only issues are that the cable on the right speaker was extended, and there is a difference in colour between the back plastic of the speakers in comparison to the main body.

I have a large collection of photographs here ---> http://minus.com/myGF990

I'm asking for £385.

EDIT -- So this isn't nearly as rare or worth as much as I thought, but I'm interested in any reasonable offers ... just PM me.

If anyone has any questions or would like some particular photographs or videos just let me know.

claret.badger - 2012-09-05 20:29

man I used to pass on these when they were 70 quid - seen a few in the wild

didn't realise they were fairly rare

good luck with sale -

docs - 2012-09-06 01:43

They aren't rare, I've seen dozens of them for sale over the last 5 years in the UK alone and they went for approximately 50-100 quid maximum with some going for less than 50 quid.

They are a nice box but not almost 400 quid nice sorry.

Good luck.

@radio raheem

You may be right about there being more of them, the only information I could find on the internet about their prevalence was another forums post saying that only 100 were brought in though, hence why I posted it.

whenever I do see them - the deck is normally OOO

i'd have one for curio's sake - but only for about 45 quid

but i'm a tight old fecker - and this has the box

dogtemple - 2012-09-06 10:42

i think i bought one of these from a boot fair for about £3 a few years back.   I also swapped one for a sharp gf9191, thats about its fair going rate i would say.  that of a gf9191 or equivalent GF

davebush - 2012-09-07 05:37

Iv had 2 of these within the last couple of years.....they are not rare at all....

Iv sold both of them now   £120   and    £95........

Keep dreaming with the £385 dood........

Oh yeah the decks go and the keyboard sounds crap

andyboombox - 2012-09-07 05:44

i had one recently.....nice big 3 piece box,not over bassy but the keyboard was so gimmicky.....they cost a fortune when new but im with the majority here when i say they are not rare, and arent really worth the coin your asking.....i agree with docs,50 to a hundred is a more sensible amount, with possibly upto 150 max for a factory fresh still boxed one but that its full up price.....by the way welcome to this cracking forum, youll fit right in here, all friendly guys

Hello Everyone...

So apparently the boombox isn't worth nearly as much as I thought. Pity; but I will entertain any reasonable offers if anyone is interested. So just PM me.

Thanks for the welcome!

Chhh - ignore us we're a bunch of cynical feckers

stick it on ebay
