Boombox Lottery - Hitachi TRK-9900

docs - 2013-08-26 04:43

Here up for lottery is a Hitachi TRK-9900. It is in good condition, one aeriel tip is broken. Radio, line in, phono work good, deck has had new belts but cogs are out of alignment so needs quick fix though it does work but needs sorting (I don't have time I've got a sozen or so projects on the go).

As per MitchellJames's post this is a boombox lottery !!!

I'm selling numbers 1 - 49 and the bonus ball drawn on Saturday 31st August will win this.

£1.25p per ball which includes shipping costs. People can buy multiple numbers, it's a lottery !!!

My paypal address is *removed* please send payment as friend and put a note on it with your s2g username.

If this works out there will be more to come.

All 49 numbers need to be sold in order for there to be a winner. If this is not the case I will refund everyone or extend for 1 week.

Good luck all !!!

docs - 2013-08-26 05:11

Yes good call, UK only at that price

Unless winner is happy to add to shipping...

john82 - 2013-08-26 05:13

Also how about making all new listings on Sundays ? This way there is a whole week for bidders and people will get to know that Sundays are boom box lotto days ?

Ha ha cheers for the very kind offer Si mate

docs - 2013-08-27 09:37

24 hours in and its not looking great. Fingers crossed this picks up as it seems like a great and fun idea. This box is essentially going for 45 quid and 15 quid shipping but to the lucky winner £1.25p.
Worth a shot surely?

northerner - 2013-08-27 10:06

Come on people this is such a great idea we can't fail on the first attempt lol

docs - 2013-08-27 10:54

Correct Si and if this one works out there are another 5 or so boxes to go the same way and they start getting quite tasty.

northerner - 2013-08-27 10:56

Well I'd buy a couple more tickets, just didn't want to be too greedy at the outset

michiel - 2013-08-27 12:22

I already got 5 tickets  All the sevens lol.

docs - 2013-08-28 02:13

So many members, so many posters and only the usual core members interested

Come on people...are you so hard up you can't spare £1.25?!! I want to see what the next boxes offered are so don't let this fall apart on the first go...its much more fun and has far better odds than a flaming lottery ticket!!

As the wise old sage Bob Geldof once said "give us your f***in' money NOW!"

Seems reasonable

nickfish - 2013-08-28 09:20

I don't think it is fair to try to make members feel guilty for exercising their right not to participate. It is certainly not anything personal; I just don't particularly want that box. I do think it's a great concept though.

northerner - 2013-08-28 09:33

Ha ha I think its completely fair that's why I'm doing it lol Surely you could give house room to this beast just to get the concept off the ground

docs - 2013-08-28 09:41

No worries Si. Of course Nick there are members that would not want to participate and I am perfectly fine with that, but 99% of them ? It's no biggy, just isn't meant to work out this way. eBay from now on then.

radio.raheem - 2013-08-28 10:21

Shame this hasn't worked but like i said there are only about 10 regular posters here

samsnite - 2013-08-28 10:52

I def would want to participate, but i think the shipping fee to Finland would be a deal killer. Further there might be a voltage incompatibility issue... but i love the concept! There would not be many other things more fun than getting a surprise box!

ao - 2013-08-28 11:08

I think it's a great idea.  I've posted this on the Facebook page in an attempt to get some more interest.

mitchelljames - 2013-08-28 11:15

This is an absolutely great idea but it seems we have nowhere near enough active folks on the forum.

To get between 25 to 49 people to buy a number or two i reckon we would need about 100 regular posters and as RR said theres probably only 10-20.

It is worth a try and im all for giving it a few weeks to see if a few more numbers get sold. We can all just bump this thread regularly.

bison - 2013-08-28 12:29

are they the only numbers taken,i will have a some, put me down for 1,8,10,24 i will box payment off before sat

brutus442 - 2013-08-28 12:43

I'd jump in but the box doesn't float my boat and the shipping to Canada would be a big ouch!

The concept is great though

lav.loo - 2013-08-28 18:09

is paypal the only payment method here??????

aestereo - 2013-08-28 21:17

Shipping is the problem for anyone outside the country of lottery owner

I just noticed, this is the only box that I have seen with 12 segment LED VU meter other than the Pioneer SK-95. It would be a real good light show.

I can't think of an alternative that offers flexibility in terms of refunding and receiving payments. If there is one I'm all ears

Also, thanks folks for the helpinfg out with this, as you say it is a great idea. The box may not be the most desirable to some folks but I think at the chance of winning and the price, does it matter ?!

And yes the shipping costs "might" kill the deal but then again at the winning cost and the thrill of taking part...

bison - 2013-08-29 14:01

1,8,10,24 purchased,*rubs hands together*

Thanks Andy received but am about to refund all 4 people which participated.

Other boxes to have gone this way would have been Realistic SCR-8, Sharp GF9696, Sharp VZ2500 etc etc. Thanks to those that took part it was and is a great idea.

northerner - 2013-08-30 10:00

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

I'm now a very sad northerner especially hearing what could've come up next ;(

Bollocks bugger and other assorted expletives

bison - 2013-08-30 12:06

shame it was a great idea

michiel - 2013-08-30 15:41

xenon4u2c - 2013-08-30 19:13

Don't give up yet ... I'll buy a few if i can figure out how to get you the money ?

baddboybill - 2013-08-31 00:29

I agree Docs it was a great idea you had. I actually tried a similar drawing on Boomboxery for a Pioneer SK21. Interest don't seem positive so looks like it won't work.

northerner - 2013-08-31 01:31

I'm at a loss why this isn't hugely popular on either forum...each one has been set up by a 100% trustworthy member so that's not it. The tickets are cheap so its not that either. People spend loads of money every week on lottery tickets when the odds are millions to one....the odds on this are fantastic. It's a bit of fun but no one wants to play...boooooo!

Maybe it needs launching with a really good box?

Surprised its not taken off on boomboxery as there are more active members on there in the states

docs - 2013-08-31 04:00

Ah well you win some you lose some.

True enough a more desirable box might work better but then again that is not the aim of the fun. For eg: putting my mint M90 up would probably have the same outcome and likely lead to heated debate about the entire process and that it is not worth this and that much etc. The box is not the issue in my opinion, the spirit of love for boxes is sadly missing.

Good luck to whoever else wants to try it with one of their "grails".

michiel - 2013-08-31 09:35

Maybe its better to try in winter. Guess that lots of people are still on holiday or aren't bussy with their hobby during summer time?

smeats1976 - 2013-08-31 10:28

I think this could work with the right box, doesn't have to be a "grail" A nice sharp GF at a £2 or £3 a pop for example! You have to want the box enough to pay for the number(s) and postage.

brutus442 - 2013-08-31 18:23

Like Si said, Boomboxery has a large US base whereas S2Go has a more UK base. Depending on where the origin is can make or break the lottery. Shipping is a deal breaker in some countries because of import tax, duty etc.

It's a phenomenal idea and Docs should be applauded for spearheading it forward after the idea was proposed.

samovar - 2013-09-03 11:19

what a fabulous idea! too bad i missed it --having spent the last month in the hyperuranion (a sort of suspended animation, but worse). hat off to docs for his wonderful creative effort. i hope it will be repeated with maximum support from everybody - i, for sure, will give mine
