I've seen a few of these, but didn't they realize that tapes turn counter-clockwise, not clockwise??

Well, if tapes rotated clockwise, then the spiral would have a hypnotic effect. But they don't.

if you trigger'em long enough they'll hypnotize you as well, believe me !

Yep that's the one. They would have looked so much better if they had reversed the spiral so that it would have looked good while in "Play"
