Yeah, the matching 215 cassette is an all time icon too, with incredible design qualities.

That CD player had the best built transport first generation of CDM mechanism made by philips But DAC is a 14 bit Philips TDA1540, it is terrible.

Stock won't bother, is well built and has that nice transport. Did mod one of these a while back for a friend. Remove the two old opamps and the oversampling chip, install Philips DAC SAA7000 some bypass tantalums 1k resistor and  Lampizator section completely replaces the entire analog stage, used a Soviet 6N2P-EV, and built a custom PSU used toroidal transformer audiophile grade filter capacitors.

Reason why CD players don't hold value is that the one audio gear that improve over the years, because the DAC improve so much over the years, now I use a Denon SACD DVD player nowadays, no point in buying older 80's CD player, unless you are willing to change the DAC, opamps and upgraded the PSU and built the tubes PSU. With cassettes the best ones came out during the late 70's, 80's and even early 90's, after that quality when downhill, as it was more about profit margin.

the dac isn't the best anymore.

you need a new dac, but you still can use the drive.

some persons use 90's denons and install a new dac. that's more cheap and far better sounding than a 225. but does the denon have the looks.??

ach, just buy a denon and a revox. got both sound and looks..

yep, the 215 is a beautifull deck. i've red that the motors arent that good.

i have 2 of them they need serviced, both motor problems
