GF-8989 Woofer Wanted Please (white/chrome cap)

gluecifer - 2008-08-07 04:54

Discovered one of mine is irrevertably screwed and no amount of lego and super glue is going to bring her back to life, unfortunately. I would really appreciate it if someone has the part they can sell and send me.

Stains on the cone are fine, it'll need to be repainted to match the working one anyway.

Please PM me if you can help a brother out.

Do these ( GF-8989 Woofer Wanted Please (white/chrome cap) ) only come in the color that you speak of here? as I dont know.
Could you work with black coned woofers and then paint them white? or does the addition of the paint change the characteristics of the sound of the speaker an such
or could you simply get these re-coned or you dont want to do that cause they sell the reconing kit's online somewhere as I need to get me some kits for my Aiwa pj33 as the passive's need reconing and I didn't order them as of yet ... James

I seen and or read on here somewhere about somebody getting/finding Chrome caps and installing them on speakers that didnt have chrome caps to begin with ... Can these chrome caps be found from somewhere for sale ... like at a speaker-sale-place or what?

Aside from the chrome cap these speakers also have a cirle shape right around the middle of the speaker thats shaped/engraved into the cone. I didn't even notice this until they were removed as it's almost invisible through the grills.

This combined with the chrome cap is going to make it even more difficult to replace from others. I don't think repainting would make as much difference as this 'ring' around the cone does, so in a pinch I'd definitely buy a black one and recolour it.

I think the paint would have less effect on the sound than having a speaker without the same cone shape. Plus my chrome dustcap from the busted one can be removed and reglued onto the replacement, I've got instructions on how to do that from a refoaming kit I've used.

I will need the whole speaker as a replacement though, the current ones problem was the glue that held the magnet on the back had perished/broken, so it's completely knackered.

Thanks for the help guys, hopefully someone has a black or white one they don't need.
