So, what are we doing about the birthday?

elite1502323 - 2009-05-14 07:03

Is the 30th birthday of the Walkman sometime in July of this year?

johnedward - 2009-05-15 07:10

Yes I believe the TPS-L2 was first released in July of 1979. Sony probably wont even make any notice of this 3 decades since cassette walkman began. Sad.

heck yeah, they releasing something for us the last week of this month:

The price is around the money you paid 10, 20 years ago for some nice units...truth is we won't have a lot of different models, versions, colors and flavors as we used to get on the 80's and 90's

Jeremtxun,
Could you elaborate on what Sony is releasing?
Maybe they changed their page but I don't see anything that would be new.. Mp3? Fm tuner? Something else?
Thanks
Chris C

Cool article, thanks Paul. By the way, I left a voice mail for the Director of Retail Events at Sony, and inquired about a 30th birthday display at the store on Madison ave. If she responds to me, maybe we (members of the forum) can help in some way, or loan some items to them.

John:

Did the lady from Sony ever reply to you? Am I foolish for even asking? Smile

rerooted - 2009-08-03 19:27

the real truth is the spirt of the walkman is right here !!!!!!!!!

elite1502323 - 2009-08-04 07:06

Hey Paul
No, you're not foolish for asking and no, she did not respond. I thought, "ah, what the heck" and gave it a try. Also, I sent inquiries to the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum and Museum of Modern Art. Even though they're also a long shot, I'll let you know if I hear back from them.

stereo2go - 2009-08-04 12:17

Someone from the Brooklyn Museum inquired about portable stereo exhibits. He said one is due, for sure.

The Design Museum would be a great candidate. I'm surprised they haven't responded with interest.

Should we follow up with the BMA guy?

stereo2go - 2009-08-06 09:29

I told him we've got many people in the area who could contribute, and that he let me know if/when he wants to give it a go.
