Philips personal stereo?

soundmachine - 2009-11-23 12:29

Hi guys

Did Philips ever make a decent personal stereo?

If so what model and what year should I look for?

I still have one that I bought in 1997 and it's not very good my Panasonics walk all over it

what do you have still, that you bought in 97?
Can you post a picture of this ???

I'll try again to post a picture of it.

It's a AQ6562 radio/cassette player and it's done sterling service when I was on shift work. I had it connected to a pair of Philips active speakers and it usually ran (radio) all over the weekend shift pattern even we we swapped shifts!

The sound has always been softer than any of my Sony's or Panasonics.

That is a nice philips microboombox in your nice avatar! Smile

* must have * Big Grin

Thanks Walkgirl

I've always had a soft spot for Philips and have a collection of earlier shoebox recorders. My quest is to find a "decent" Philips personal stereo excluding DCC as I don't want another format!
Philips must have had made a reasonable one, right?

soundmachine - 2009-11-24 05:40

How old are the D6645's now?

Something else to look for on Ebay and bootfairs:-)

Good choice Walkgirl Big Grin, Here's my NIB D6645.

Box is a little bit worn, but the player is unused, this is from 1985-86.

Nice one Dave.

Have you tried it?
What does it sound like?

walkgirl - 2009-11-26 08:31

There it is Big Grin Cool

I have a sansui version and a jvc version from that walkman!, sound is great but the fast forward is nothing to write home about Confused

I hope you find one!, they are super rare and difficult to find! Frown

soundmachine - 2009-11-26 09:48

Thanks for the info.

It'll give me something to look out for when the car boot sales start again!!

mrp32dave - 2009-11-26 10:13

Walkgirl is right the fast foward is slow and there is no rewind as such you have to reverse the tape play direction to rewind. It does sound good though and is very loud, I have only used the boxed one a few times I have another well used one which I use often.I also have a Roberts version here it is:

I have been looking for JVC version but no luck, didn't know there was a Sansui one.

soundmachine - 2009-11-26 10:43

That Roberts one looks nice.

I've only got later Philips stereos. The last one I got was with a three button transport and a mostly plastic tape deck. Needless to say it sounds horrible.
If I can figure out why I can't upload any pics then I'll put some of my collection.
