Sony BOODO KHAN Body System RARE BBS-10 /BDR-10 Headphones WOW I got mine

johnedward - 2008-11-20 22:58

Scroll to bottom to see recent pictures. First ones are from Ebay auction I bought from. Greetings all my 2nd post. I started collecting cassette walkmans few months ago... res erected my old high end stereo and spent my kids inheritance addicted to research and acquiring walkmans especially other than the sound god Sony.. but have some. ( Too many people wanna spend too much money on Sony) Fell upon this Sony Boodo Khan Body System BBS-10 and it really seems ULTRA RARE as almost nothing on net search shows up. Apparently the precursor to sound chairs maybe. My NOS in org. box Boodo Khan Body system BBS-10 with seat back woofer/controller, power amp and special boodo headphones -They have TWO plugs one smaller than other... headphones have separate base vibration driver that is NOT speaker powered. Just hooked up tonight and am in AUDIO WALKMAN NIRVANA. Amazing sound as sometimes the bass rattles your body bones and just mid/highs to headphones then the headphones join in with upper bass low tones making head rumble... sometimes its just one,two or can be all three(seat back, lows headphones and med/low to highs headphone speakers) amazing how they separated different lows. Must be some serious complex crossover. It looks in perfect new condition. I think only 200 made worldwide. Mine - serial number is #154. Bought this from a Chicago audio dealer had it since 87 lost back in warehouse. Says never used I believe him now that have. Only ravage of time is foam over drivers headphones inside ear can crumbling/sticky a bit.( any ideas how to repair?), Seller remembers it as a promotional item sold to large audio dealers. Only thing missing is owner manual but located service manual tonight and ordered.

Regards John

PS anything ANYONE can tell me about this system greatly appreciated or if another member has one lets talk.

OH and have ATARI 2600 with 120 games ... yeah sorry off topic I got on a roll.

Now, that's interesting.

What are it?

docp - 2008-11-21 05:14

amazing !

johnedward - 2008-11-21 05:45

Hi ya Walkgirl, nope not mini disk. The black box is a power amplifier that drives the woofers and headphones I believe. Apparently from the controls on side of seat back cushion woofer the input from a WALKMAN or CD player is used as a low level source and amplified by amp. Amp has a really heavy cord with 12 pins connecting chair and amp. Amp also has RCA inputs/outputs ( not quiet sure why has outputs) and switch on seat for Source In to be Phones or Line. It is a MOST unique listening experience with the unusual ability of headphone to vibrates/ultra low base ability and woofer behind back. Being that it uses house current it is not portable. Hell I could strap it to my back, the 15 pound amp on my belt with my walkman and those ALIEN size headphones and walk in public... oh yeah.. the car battery am holding for power...portable NOT ! Just a first class listening experience personally that not bothers others like std. stereo. WOO HOO

the boodo khan is tooo hyped.
i've red it's a WM-DD2+
i don't have one, so i don't know it's performance. 50 euro should be enough for this unit. i think the DC2 and DD9 are the better ones.

johnedward - 2009-03-27 11:18

I purchased a DC2 few weeks ago, AWESOME performing player. I agree Boobo walkman a bit overrated but still a FINE player from sony. This boodo khan body system did NOT come with the player was a promotional item limited to a few hundred units world wide to show the ability of the boodo khan walkman as source to provide amazing pounding bass and vibration and great sealed headphone performance like a live rock concert.. WHICH IT TOTALLY DOES... all without causing others in home distress from pictures falling off walls ;-) Laugh Out Loud

When I was a kid, I remember my dad getting the DAK catalog. They had something like this that you put around your neck and hung on you chest. It was shaped like a very long flexable, cool, cloth covered rectangle. They called it the "Bone-Box". It was said to take advantage of the inaudible bass--and you would FEEL the music!

johnedward - 2009-05-16 19:56

Forgot to update with pictures of my own as ones at beginning of post were from ebay auction. Here you can see better the controls and headphone which are truly unique. Foam inside headphones over metal turned all gooey had to remove but pads are in good condition.

NOTE UNIQUE DOUBLE PLUG one for speaker one for vibrate unit in each side

I even found the Service Manual for this unit online which I have as downloaded PDF file.

johnedward - 2009-05-16 20:23

Here are pictures of the very unique VERY HEAVY amplifier that has 3 separate channels one to feed the Woofer in seatback, one for headphone speakers and one for vibrating unit in headphones.

Yes that is a 1980 HAFLER 500 watt per channel Amp owned since new!
And mid 70's Magnaplaner "Maggies" speakers 1 inch thick!

rerooted - 2009-05-16 20:55

ok john,,,i just gotta ask ya....???? how well does this work ? i have one of those panasonic vibrating headphones which are new and came sealed with the player inside also. it might be a bit more "cool" if the earpiece didn't feel like it was trying to gain entrance to the innards of ones brain. i mean it can really hurt after a while. they needed to have some padding to make it comfortable. the idea, in itself, makes sense but it wouldn't hurt to apply a nice piece of foam padding.

aa.fussy - 2009-05-16 21:18

Can you share the service manual with us?

johnedward - 2009-05-16 21:22

Hi Rerooted I have I believe the exact headphones from Panasonic they came with sports model RQ-SW99V which I got new in box. You are totally correct the headphones for these that have a vibrate unit that lays on back of neck is very interesting but after 10 mins the headphones really push inward on ear and hurt.. heck after I took them off felt like someone was pushing something in my ears for 30 mins. Nice concept lousy engineering to hold onto head. This Boodo Khan body system is in a league FAR up in the audiophile catagory for sound quality. The headphones are Very comfortable even if somewhat heavy the wide band around head really helps. The vibration unit in headphone can be adjusted to your personal taste or music listening too which you can see in picture of controls on side of seat back. The woofer in seat back also has separate adjustment level but I assure you can raise the level of both to pound your gut and vibrate your head like being 100 ft. from LED ZEPPLIN's live stage IN FRONT OF SPEAKERS ARRAY !! This system is not at all like the Panasonic headphones and of course is NOT PORTABLE. Here is picture of the Panasonic your talking about I believe.

NOTE: Earphone part has STRONG spring load you have to pull UP to place in ear

johnedward - 2009-05-16 21:38

I do not know how to post as the service manual is in 5 PDF files on my computer. How do I post ?
PDF is a pain sometimes. AA I sent the 5 pdf files to you in a email.

i have learned a bit about super glue a couple of weeks ago. my little bottle tipped over and when it dried the towel was glue very tightly to the vinyl table top plastic. it there was some way to lay a piece of foam in the heaadphone cavity and then glue some nice piece of material over it it may hold the foam in place inside your bodoo kahn headphones. it may work but i am not sure. just try small sample area to see if it holds tightly..
