Looking for an Aiwa

ravedj - 2010-06-20 01:55

Hello. I had a Walkman branded Aiwa. I was terribly satisfied with it, but it was stolen with my schoolbag (eighteen years ago). Now I am looking for it to buy if I found it, but I don´t know the model. I look in nearly all the posts (some collections are very impressive) and in every website I know (including google images ;D). So here comes the description:

The brand was Aiwa. No radio, no LCD, autoreverse, recording capabilities, Play on the upper side centered, rest of buttons upper side at right, 2 AA batteries using the bottom long side, 3 sliders in front with superbass, bass and treble, dolby B, volume was a tiny wheel at the other side between play and the rest of the buttons.
All buttons were mechanical but the reverse slider.
the sliders are almost identical to the Aiwa HS-T22 (but mine had a red line in the handlers), and the place of the controls is very similar to the model HS-T101 (but mine was black)
It was brilliant black, and I believe that it had a thin red line in the front. I´m from Spain and it was purchased in 1990 or so. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!! (and excuse my poor english)

The three sliders on the front sounds familiar, esp ones which aren't a graphic equalizer.

OK, let's try some suggestions:

How's the HS-J370 for starters?

First to expand your chance of finding you may want to look into KENWOOD as many of their late 80's early 90's models used nearly identical mechanical's/electronics as AIWA with slightly different exterior's. You can search on Ebay under KENWOOD cassette walkman CP should help.
All Kenwood walkman model starts with CP- then numbers or letters or mix of.
I believe this list to be complete and in general order starting with oldest (1983 ?)to newest.

Also topic on Kenwoods / Aiwas
KENWOOD like AIWA
I did search of my collection and of places I knew on net... nothing that matches your excellent description.
ONE question was body mostly of METAL or plastic.
Aiwa sadly for the late 80 early 90's units used substandard quality capacitors which over time leak and destroy the pcb board. If unit has any sound problems avoid buying other than wow/flutter which is belt. Aiwa's are generally more difficult to replace belts on.
Good luck

Hi. Thanks for the replies!!.

To Agentorange: My Aiwa hadn´t radio, but the case is very similar, including the kind of black.

To JohnEdward: I think the body is not plastic, but it wasn´t cold as metal, it can be some alloy (or good plastic maybe). Definitely the body is like the photo Agentorange put in the second post. Thanks for the kenwood info. I´ll give an eye.

Thanks in advance!!

Still no luck. Any other advice?

I simply typed "Aiwa HS*" into Google and trawled through the images.
