so just won this on ebay! been keeping an eye out on quite a few walkmans recently, a few panasonic rq-s series, a couple dd9s and this f701c.

im just happy because it has dolby c and looks like its in pretty mint condition.

so should get it in the next few days but just wondering if anyone else has one of these and can tell me what they think of it. also really excited as this is gonna be my first proper working walkman!

also it comes with the original black box/case/paperwork etc.. and well i dont particularly mind about that stuff so if anyone wants all that to complete their collection then let me know.

oh and thanks for all the help guys with answering my questions. really appreciate it

um one small question! ive noticed that this walkman has the usual phones/remote input for headphones, not the 3.5mm jack so is there a converter out there that i buy so i can use my normal headphones? thanks very much!

Congrats-hope you'll enjoy it.

How much did you win it for?

cantbearsed - 2009-05-08 05:20

got it for £53 with all the original box and stuff!

AO - its got headphones so don't worry, might buy a 3.5mm female adapater and splice it into the headphone cable (above the remote) so i can use any pair of headphones. anyone tried this before?

and no one needs the original box/manual etc?

well,,i have done something similar several times. it all depends on the wiring inside. i have done this 10-20 times but only with the modern (2000-2007 ) headphones. i tend to ruin the male part and the sound gradually just is intermitent but quickly goes to none at all. there are 2 wires attached together which can easily be pealed apart. both these wires have 2 wires inside that are quite small. i match the colors and twist them together. then i soldier both ends together. you will have 4 wires to join together in all. all must be taped apart very carefully because if they touch it won't work. after all is done i use the electrical tape to put it all back together again. it's not that pretty but it works. there are some headphones that have different wires so i cannot make this fix work. it usually takes me over an hour to do it right but if i need the headphones i will do it.

one thing i should mention also. i did this to my koss pro 1's about 3 times but finally the earpiece part finally quit working for some reason. i pitched them in the trash and have a new pair coming for 20.00 delivered. the moral to this is this. after so long and so many repairs it's just best to pick up some new ones.

oh my god, i just got it in the mail like 10 minutes ago... first off i have to recommend the seller janet1611 to everyone (perfect description, 110% packing, so efficient) and the walkman is absolutely mint. so well looked after, everything is there with all the original packaging. down to the little bags for each of the extra pieces.

also! it has a converter from that weird connector to a 3.5mm jack, so i can use my headphones. but im testing it now with all the original stuff and it sounds perfect. its incredible, can't even compare it to my old boots £1 walkman, sounds better than an ipod for sure, so clear + that warm analog sound that i like.

i am literally so happy with this! i'll post loads of pics later on today. but i just want to thank everyone who has helped me. before i came here i literally had no idea about any of this, like tape type/bias/diff in dolby b/c etc. so thank you Big Grin

Looks very nice, how does it sound?
I see you also have WM-30 I have one and like it alot.

cantbearsed - 2009-05-09 13:23

sounds really good and ive only actually tested it out on a pretty rubbish tdk d60 (type i) tape, but with dobly c it sounds real nice.

had a listen on some proper beefy headphones and chucked the bass boost up to max and it was amazing, never knew a walkman had so much power.

and yeah, got the wm30 (except mines called the wm-10II) but its slightly temporamental, only works some of the time, other times its a bit slow/crackly. but its a really nice lookin unit.

and strangely the wm-f701c is actually smaller than the wm-10II (even when its got no tape in it).

Great find really nice player, glad it came with the earphone adapter plug so you can use any headphones. Get a pair of Koss Porta Pros less than $40 USD new thunderlicious bass tho a tad lacking on high end. Totally best buy for money for walkman. Have a wm-701c boxed also found in UK about same price.
