Agentorange do you have the akai pmr2 the one with the plug in tuner cassette,i had this but gave it away 20 years ago would like to see one again do you have a photo?.i had the red leather case and the small red case for the headphones also with the carry strap, have been lookin out for one on ebay but seems never to appear.

Oooh, don't recall that one. There was the PM-01 as below but I assume the 'R' probably means the same but with record. To be honest I never knew they did a recording version. A rare, rare beastie indeed.

The closest ill probably get is a scrap one i have. some pics below it was auto reverese about the same size as the wm2,and agent from your pic the tuner looks the same.I remember this back in 1983,this was more of a girly stereo with soft red leather case and shelace type black carry strap,i used to have the service manual for this will try to dig out and show some more pics.
Hey walkgirl was it the red one you will love this walkman.

That is a odd walkman!, with that knob on
that corner there Confused

No it was such a silver one, not a red one, but
the red one is nice when it would be 100% Big Grin

Ahhh, very interesting, so very different then?

Bizzarely I have the soft red case for this very walkaman.

The layout looks similar to a KLH Solo II.

walkgirl - 2007-12-12 10:01

That khl solo is fantastic!! Cool

I like walkmans with clear cassette windows! Smile

happy - 2007-12-12 11:09

that klh looks just like the akai, the door was also clear and looks the same.
Walkgirl the volume control is on the corner yes a bit odd.
Agent hang on to that case youll probably find a stereo one day, then it will be complete.

I've owned an AKAI PM-01 since they were first introduced. It was really very nice, great sound, FM stereo cassette a good idea (back then). It was a bit heavy though (lotta stuff packed into that case) Sadly, it's not working now. Don't know why, so, if anyone wants to pay for shipping, it's yours.
