Site Upgrade!

stereo2go - 2011-02-07 19:25

Well, the upgrade was successful!  I can see folks are getting in successfully too.  Just some highlights on the changes and cool updates:

  1. Attachments are working.
  2. The message area is improved for more customization.
  3. PMs are now called Dialogs.
  4. Tags are now included to improve search capability.
  5. There is a special area of the site called "Clips".  This will be a holding area for images, video and audio.
  6. A new Blog area.
  7. And the user interface is definitely more modern.
I know the change might be a little overwhelming at first.  Many of us became comfortable on the previous site after 6+ years.

johnedward - 2011-02-07 19:48

Well the old dog in me hates change but alas it happens.   Site looks very interesting will need more learning time.
QUESTION.... I can not for life of me access / find the SEARCH or FIND icon or area.????   How is this accessed?

Comment that the avatars are so much smaller than before ?

Thanks for your effort I am sure its been a lot of work... now rest of us have to work at ability to use new site .

im.out.of.hear - 2011-02-07 20:06

i want to try and be as kind as possible,as i dont want to hurt any feeling due to the total hard work thats gone into the upgrade..
But !! i really really really dont like this change at all,its too hard to navigate, way way too complicated, the style is like no forum i've ever seen,i know its all about getting used to it,but its also about wanting to get used to it,but speaking for myself,if i have to be honest i dont even want to get used to it,i cant get used to something i dont like...if the style and layout would have stayed the same but with a flashy new look and extra features, that would have been fine, but i have to say that the spirit and history and every classic part of stereo2go has been lost..i'm actually pretty devastated..

stereo2go - 2011-02-07 21:42

The feedback, good and bad is welcome.  Please keep it coming.  I'm keeping an issues/problem list and will do my best to address them ASAP.  Please test out whatever you can.

Over the next few days, I'll be filling up the Clips area with images from the old site.

Ghettoman, I'm saddened that you're not happy with the update.  Can you try playing with it for a couple days to see if your opinion changes?

walkgirl - 2011-02-07 23:03

I am confused now

docs - 2011-02-08 01:09

The update is a welcome and necessary one in my opinion.
It looks cool and is more upto date with social updates.
I'm still looking around but thus far Paul I'm loving it.
MIght need to check some of my user options but thats all.
Otherwise

i think the topic/title of the thread is too big. remove the picture of the poster.
a title should be one sentence wide. you have to scroll alot more, and have less view of what is happening. balance convenience/looks

corry - 2011-02-08 01:55

What happend???

The old page was much better than now !!!

ao - 2011-02-08 02:27

This is a vast improvement, please give it a chance guys.

It's just a change, a bit like wearing long trousers after years in shorts.  Get your bearings and let's just get on with the business in hand.

Oh, and the smileys are back GRRRRRR!!!!, not so keen now.

walkgirl - 2011-02-08 02:55

Jup, alot of smilies are missing

metad - 2011-02-08 03:40

Mmm...yes, "overwhelmed" is the right word to describe what I feel

isolator42 - 2011-02-08 04:00

Interesting upgrade. Life is change & all that, eh? Some feedback from me: Two features I used alot & now cannot find are "Search" & "View recent posts by ". Are these no longer availble, or can someone please point me to them? thanks

blaster - 2011-02-08 06:46

I like the new look....just a bit to get use to....but what would be nice and if its possible perhaps to keep or have a seniority status of us old timers....like the dated we joined on from the old site...just a thought...

cooldude - 2011-02-08 10:19

Change is ok. I will get used to it although I liked the classic look of the forum. My only concern at this point is that the page width has shrunk to half with a lot of blank space on the sides. Normally this format is for sites that plan to post advertisements on the sides. I hope that's not the future plan? I hate sites with ads. If it's absolutely necessary I guess I will have to accept it.

Looks cool otherwise.

Hope there's some way to stop the auto e-mail that's sent everytime someone posts a picture. Other than that the site is pretty slick. Just have to get used to navigating.

blaster - 2011-02-08 19:39

that kinda reminds me of the 1st original b-box forum where this all started from...when it was an email forum...every post was an email....back and forth...does bring me memories....but hopefully paul and the crew will fix the bugs and quirks...im sure it will get better....

paul.cusentino - 2011-02-08 19:44

Found out you can disable e-mails in the notifications section in your profile. And I was just thinking that it would be cool if it showed our location when we post.  I always thought that was a nice touch on the old site. All the hard work on the site is appreciated.

isolator42 - 2011-02-08 23:58

No-one found a search tool yet?

walkman.archive - 2011-02-09 06:51

Thanks for the effort for bringing us a new forum. I have now to explore the new interface, but until now I found that:

- font size is a bit small to read in some places.

- I don't find the search button.

- I prefer a feature of the old forum list, on which it was shown which was the last post without having to enter that forum and see or to clic anywhere. Can this feature work in the new site? (I know that I get this by clicking on the "new" button)

- New clips/photos zone seems good, but it would be nice if the zoom function works over the thumbnails, not having to clic over an image previously.

- There's no preview post function, right?

- It's very nice that avatars are now not so big as before; but now I find them a bit small ;-)

- There are now only a few "gaemlins" -> smileys
- links into posts to other posts seems to not work.

- Will it be support to Tapatalk app? (an app to easily check forums on the iphone)

stereo2go - 2011-02-09 07:11

Hi folks,

The site has run with no ads since it opened.  There are no plans to introduce them now.

Working to address the email notification settings and default font sizing.

I mentioned elsewhere that the search and custom graemlins/smileys are in the works.

Some basic karma settings are in place, based on community points/posts/uploads.  If people are looking for fancier titles, let's hear them.

A dedicated iPhone interface is also in the works.

isolator42 - 2011-02-09 07:55

...fingers crossed that the Search function includes 'View recent posts by -USER-'

isolator42 - 2011-03-08 04:41

Hello "Search", welcome back - I've missed you!

Aahh, bliss...

Nice one!

stereo2go - 2011-03-08 10:59

Still tweaking the search function but it's there.  Please let me know if you encounter any problems...

isolator42 - 2011-03-08 13:44

Well, if you're tweaking...

The search function lets you find posts *started* by a specific member, but not posts *contributed to* by a specific member.

This is how I trace posts I've commented on. Perhaps there is a "View Your Posts" option possible (which I have seen on other forums).
