I have the Paul du Gay book.  Very interesting book and it is peppered with old advertisements too.

There's a nice little write-up around the history of the Walkman name, for example.  Staff came up with the name "Stereo Walky" which was conceived from the popular term "Walkie-Talkie".  They had even created that little logo with the walking feet under the "A" before deciding upon the Walkman name.

The book also covers gender roles in Sony.  All of the publicity and marketing was driven by men.  But nearly all of the Walkmans were actually built and assembled by women.

That's what happens when someone tries making a science out of sheer joy :-) But I guess we're all a happy lot and the academicians just can't undertsand our fixation, eh
