OT? Walgreens is selling JVC "Flats" (HA-S160) for $5

Don't know if I should put stuff about headphones here, but it's kind of hard to listen to your Walkman without them, so...

I was in a Walgreens a couple of days ago when something in the bargain bin caught my eye. Headphones that look just like JVC "Flats" in a package that had "$5" boldly marked on it. The thing is that they didn't have JVC on the side of them. For that price I simply couldn't resist. If they were junk I could always use the pads and cord to repair a good pair. Come to find out they are the real deal.
So the JVCs aren't the best 'phones out there, but for even their normal price they're outstanding. I'll even go so far as to say that the only thing I find better in the under $50 price class is Koss PortaPros (and the variations of them).

For $5? Simply unheard of.

Do yourself a favor and snag some. You won't be dissapionted.

You talkin about these?  I hope so, cuz I just bought em.  They look like shit, but they were the only thing that looked remotely like JVC flats.....

I've tried a couple of different models of Grado and Sennheiser, but always wind up going back to my old Koss. I know that sounds nuts, but I've been using the same phones for so may years that I'm just that used to them. I know they are far from the best, but after about 25 years of listening to piratically the same exact headphones I can't help but have a preference for them.

There's a little bit of a roll-off on the high end that I'm fond of too.

Flats are these things...

They're far from high-end, but outstanding for the money.

Yo I just tried buying a pair of porta pro...actually i bought them as i have heard so many good reviews about them...BUT ebay and paypal strike again...they wouldn't let me pay for the frigging things....I realy don't know how paypal is so highly recommended...when it works it's great but im always having problems with them...so i guess the porta pro will have to wait...the rs1's arnt the best headphones i have...but there the most suited for walkman use..I have an old pair of 80's technics cans...not to be mistaken for the new rubbish technics sell...and they totally kill the grado rs1 cans..but for walkman use and hifi use the rs1 are still superb..

You can score some at Best Buy for $30 most of the time.

Oh , man I feel ya with the Paypal nightmares.

radio.raheem - 2011-04-14 02:07

There £20 on ebay over here my friend....im that peeved off with paypal at the moment im considering shutting the whole lot down man...not only can i not pay for 2 items...i think there are probbly 2 peeved off sellers...and to be honest i don't blame them....fortunate for me they cant leave me a negative like sellers could in the old days..but i feel sorry for them but there is nothing i can do..

Oh, forgive my ignorance. I forget not everyone's on this side of the pond.

Paypal is awful. We have these "Moneypak" things over hear that you can use to load cash onto your account, but those just make for an even bigger mess about half of the time.

There was a point when I wouln't bother with anyone that wouln't take a chack just becouse of Paypal being such an incredable pain.

radio.raheem - 2011-04-14 02:34

I only sorted paypal out about 6 months ago...It took me 3 years to get to the bottom of it...TRUE...I REALY can't be bothered with them this time around...im practically shaking inside with ANGER..I wanted the porta pro pretty quick...They may not sound as good as the rs1...i don't know but I am pretty intregued to try them..before i had paypal I used to send a postal order to every one...I think i'll carry on doing that..it's more reliable...and dosen't mess people about....As for you being on the other side of the pond that's cool lol if only the pond was a pond I would soon be over lol...

They seem to have slightly different specs......Perhaps as a diversion tactic, lol.  The package says frequency response 10-23K Hz, while the JVC website says 12-23K.  The package says the sensitivity is 108 +/- 3db, while JVC says it's 105db/1mW.  Package says the cord is 4ft long, but JVC says 3.93ft.  Minor differences but worth noting.

Pmpo the oldest trick in boombox history...good at baffling us like those miss matched headphone specks

reli - 2011-04-14 20:10

Ah, "peak music power", in other words total bs, lol.
