WM-EX808HG in wooden box - how rare?

jrs - 2011-08-02 10:01

Hi,

Having just rekindled my interest in Walkmans, I have dug out my Sony Walkman WM-EX808HG in a wooden box...

Does anyone know if the 808HG was an anniversary model? If not, why did my version come in such a lavish box with blue velvet inlay?!

I have given the machine a good hour run and it plays fine, I'd forgotten just how good a sound can be produced from it!

Hope you enjoy the pics - any advice appreciated, thanks.

Enjoyed the picture's

No idea why your's came in a box - except that it is, cause you have one
Wooden box as proof..  We have a few that came in 'Plastic' blow-formed box's and a few other's in cardboard boxes, but None in a wooden box.

Good that this works fine and sound's good to you

Advice - ?  We would use/keep this till..  Keep-it untill you Lose ( Hope not ever ) Your hearing or You really need the $$ rather than the soothing personal Music

Sadly these just aren't as rare as Sony would have you believe.  The wooden boxed version was a corporate gift and numerous unused units exist in Wardrobes across the land.  The boxed WM-3 was a similar deal, lots around, never used thus always turning up in good condition.  That said, they are still nice to own.

Thanks for your replies, I kind of guessed it would be something like a coporate gift. I just wish companies gave such nice things away as gifts these days....

I still think it is one of the nicest designs of walkmans though, probably my love of all things metallic and shiny!
