Brand New Sony WM-W800 in the box

dmata10 - 2011-11-18 19:23

I just received my brand new in the box Sony WM-W800.  I paid $250 for it.  Do you guys think it was worth the investment?

only if it works it may be - I have bought stuff nib only to discover that it's not new, but came with a box for it...

Oh, I think that's bang on the money, not sure I'd have payed much more though.  It's one of those units, it's not rare but nearly every one you find is either scratched and doesn't work so yeah, with box it's very rare indeed.  Not unlike a TPS-L2, loads around and without box and headphones a clean one can be worth £40, however, add a box & you can add a zero to the price.

That said, if your W800 was red or blue you could double it

Like most anniversary walkmans the w800 has its Novelty value of being a double walkman (can play on either side or record if you place a cassette in the B compartment - recording either using the stereo microphone that should have been provided or from the cassette playing in Deck A)

Mostly plastic - so scratches easily. Based on the wm-10 chasis/mechanism - so although a bit delicate...overall compact. For a wm-10 series lover yours is a fabulous find. So don't beat yourself up over what you've spent

I have only seen one boxed unit other than yours over the last 6 years and I should say yours is in good shape. Most boxed wm10s / wm F10s have gone for prices close to what you've paid (our dear friend James Pierce is guilty as charged , he's picked up some lovely NIB specimens..) ..when you want something you bid in leaps of $50 or set a final 'unmatchable high' ...like say $300

yes Dr. Prakash, that was back in the day when I was a bit over zealous in getting these walkmans then! So I could have them now only to discover that they ALL need belts like the NIB Walkman WM-F10, I now have a need for,, and I bought (1) package of belts from you a long time ago  to repair them with.

My neighbor asked me to help him locate the Sony WM-W800 walkman. He has been using his for years and it finally broke.

Where did you get yours? Do you have any suggestions of how I can go about finding one?

Thank you.

What is wrong with his walkman, maybe the belts just broke, which is an easy fix.  You can find WM-W800's on ebay ever so often.  A couple just sold last week for just under $100.

I still remember buying one of these from dixons. Didn`t keep it long, as, i wasn`t very impressed with it. Got an aiwa g-08, soon after.

Hello W800's in the U.K often sell for £50+ just for the unit and maybe the case included. I paid £70 inc pp back in 2007, but mine came with case, headphones and original mic, I think i got a good deal and it worked perfectly. However the unit was mislayed by myself (found it in the attic 3yrs later, not a good place to store walkmans or tape players, heat will perish the belts). The belt on the the B side of the player needed replacing, all is good with the unit at present. If your unit is in mint condition, I think you paid a far price for it, but store it well and use it if only to fully appreciate what you have enjoy.

This one is staying in the box.  I have another one that I use, so this one is staying mint along with an original service manuals and a couple of genuine Sony replacement belts.  It is being packed away in a box and stored in the closet inside the house.  Hoepfully my kids when they get older and cassettes are nothing but a fantasy will know how to use it.  My son's therapist who is all the tender age of 23 had never seen a record before until I showed her one last month.  She asked what the groves were for and I started laughing.
