Sony WM-2

minty - 2012-07-21 13:36

Hello all. My latest purchase is a Sony WM-2. This one is complete with box and all accessories, including original headphones. Only thing missing is the demo tape. In nice condition, and fully functional belts replaced. So I paid 150 euro including including postage. Do you guys think I got a bargain? These things are pretty rare complete.

johnedward - 2012-07-21 15:18

Value depends lot on color as Red is much more valuable than Black or Silver.  You did not mention color. Sounds like a great addition especially boxed.  Congrats

corry - 2012-07-21 22:12

150€ for a WM-2 complete is a present !!! The Real Price for a WM-2 with all Accessoires is 300-400€ for Real Walkman enthusiasts. Congratulation !!!!!!

minty - 2012-07-21 22:28

Thanks Corry. I thought it was a good price. I was surprised there was only myself and one other bidder. This is a silver WM-2. But still pretty rare I think.

minty - 2012-07-21 22:28

By the way, thanks John. Pity it isn't green eh!

ao - 2012-07-21 22:32

Bang on the money if you ask me.  Can we see a pic?

minty - 2012-07-21 22:46

Didn't receive it yet. I'll post some pictures next week.

minty - 2012-07-21 22:56

I may sell it to help fund the purchase of a Boodo Khan. I really really want one, but funds are low at the moment!

corry - 2012-07-22 00:58

I do have One in brandnew condition with all Accessoires incl. Demotape. I have Sold a WM-2 Demotape 3 Weeks ago :-(. But maybe i find one for you next time. Let you know Regards

kingrat2010 - 2012-07-22 05:01

found one a hour ago at a local fleamarket for two euros  sure it wasnt boxed

minty - 2012-07-22 05:41

Any fleas in it?

minty - 2012-07-23 02:20

I have just noticed that this WM-2 is one of the earliest models. It has a five digit serial number. Also, the play button has fwd on it. This button had play on it on later models.

kingrat2010 - 2012-07-23 09:51

mine has fwd too, will look for the serial nr. later

snowcrab - 2013-01-31 08:36

Hi all,

opening an old thread...

just bought a red one. complete in the box, all is there (even the demo-tape) and including the bill from april first 1983 for just 80 euro's!

there is just one problem: at playback it will shut off after a while.

i figure it will be a belt-replacement??

i havnt got it jet, expect it on tuesday, but i have already a picture of it.

gearwheel - 2013-01-31 09:33

congratz ... i received the same model today, but used and faulty (moves slowly and doesn`t want to work with cassette). but nevermind, i want it for USING. great design, love it ^_^...

snowcrab - 2013-01-31 12:21

Why do my pics keep disapering? :-(

aob9 - 2013-01-31 13:30

Was watching a few WM-2's also on the bay but the potential issues (split gear)are too much of a risk methinks. Doubt if anyone in Ireland could fix a broken one.

Are you uploading the pics on this site from your computer or from a 3rd party host?

I find third party hosts have very limited bandwidth and therefore kill the image quickly...better to save them to your computer and then post them from there.

snowcrab - 2013-01-31 14:00

Hi Brutus,

i think i have to try that.

I was uploading with my Ipad, at first they appear and stay for a while before disapearing for good.

i will try and post this photo tomorrow with my pc.

kin - 2013-01-31 14:17

Show us pics Neat buy!

I love the wm-2's doorlock, it's tight.

snowcrab - 2013-01-31 14:40

That's better!

I love the RED..

Great unit!

snowcrab - 2013-02-05 10:51

Finaly it arrived!!

Cosmeticly flawless, not a scratch.

All is included: headphones with red and black foams, battery-pack, purchase-bill, demo-tape, warrenty-card, accessory-flyer, usermanuel, and offcourse the box.

It is number 906515, and has the normal play-button.

It was bought on the 4th of April 1983

only thing there is, is that the belt needs replacement. (i wonder if i dear to open it....)

Looks stunning..........envy.

johnedward - 2013-02-05 11:52

//////////// Now thats a keeper for LIFE !!  Thats nicest totally complete set of everything of a WM-2 have ever seen.   I have the red with belt clip and orig. headphones but nothing else.   Great player for sure.  Green with Envy

Oh btw great clear photos.

gearwheel - 2013-02-05 12:06

well.. if you only want to keep it in the box, you don`t need to replace anything... if i were you, i`d have one to use and listen to, and this one for showcase ...

aob9 - 2013-02-05 12:19

Personally, I'd get it going. Shame to see a beauty like that lying idle. Admirers must keep their distance though. I'm always stunned to see how a 30 yr old design could easily compete with a modern high end device. You have to give Sony credit for design.

snowcrab - 2013-02-05 12:50

You know how much i was spoiled???

He even threw in a Sony 9-band reciever ICF-SW20 in the box, with also al paperworks and mono headphones!

This one is dated august 19th 1993.

My question: is this "worlds smallest boombox"??? ;-)

Sorry for upside-downers.....

mhh mhh ...  agree until the point comes, where private collectors should think about keeping things in mint conditions for further generations... well, WM-2 isn`t a rare device at all, but its a 32 yrs. old piece for museum ...

/thats the reason, why i prefer to buy things in used condition. can`t see an old beauty sratched by myself ..
