Reliable Companion For WM-DC2

djlec - 2012-08-12 18:15

I would like to get a second Walkman for my Wife.

All I need is decent Output, decent Sound, Dolby B, and Reliability.

Any easily found recommendations without spending a fortune?

Sony WM EX2  or the silver HG version

Sony WM 701 is also very good

both available for under 80

Maybe a Panasonic RQ S25 or 75  if you can find one

they sound fantastic

Disagree with the 701 with regards to output. It has a weedy output. The EX2 is not much better. For decent levels of output you should be looking generally at models up to the late 80s.

The Panasonics both can suffer from mushy belts and are a pain in the a$$ to replace, requiring a soldering iron to get to its innards.

Stay away from AIWA, unless you know someone who is able to repair / restore them. If you do have access to someone who can, then the pre 1991 models have decent sound and output.

what would you recomend?

Get a Sony wm-10, easy to work on for the most part and has decent output with dolby B NR and looks good, or this one I have listed, has a brandnew belt installed, so sure last a while and only asking $99 bucks and come with headset, wired remote, battery clip and is in the plastic box and sounds better then most Sony's

Hi DJLEC
I think your wife be happy, would to have a red DD2.
The best complement for your DC2.
Looks great, is very reliable (if gear is fixed) and sounds great.

Believe me, the effort  worthwhile.

As luck plays:
Our friend retrodos sold an example of it. a red DD2 with fixed gear.
Even the price is reasonable.
A real interesting offer.

Thanks for heads up. I like the WM-10 suggestion the best so far. Not sure if she desires a Cassette Player but her Birthday is coming up and I thought it would be a neat idea.
