Let's see your boxed walkmans

ao - 2012-11-22 08:45

The boombox guys upstairs are bragging about their boxed radios.  Just wondered if anyone has any boxed walkmans.  I have a small number somewhere in the vault which I might dig out for a photocall but it would be good to see some more.

Get digging boys

nak.d - 2012-11-22 09:43

Be there in a bit, just lined the guys up for some mugshots. Can't remember when I last opened the Ferguson... EDIT, OK my boxed WM's are few and far between P1060099

P1060085

P1060095

nak.d - 2012-11-22 10:52

Close up the the Ferguson 3T29...as shown above...It still has it's original foams, just as well as they appear to be bespoke. Plus the original receipt from 1985 - Rumbelows!

ao - 2012-11-22 10:59

Oooh, love the WM-24 box.  Also, I recall that Ferguson rebadged as a Boots unit.

Blimey, good knowledge there Cris! The fergy is actually a well made device but this one will need a new belt at some point. The Sony is nice although I now think that the Gold colour is not all that rare. I did have a WM 22 but stupidly sold it to a museum. But you can still see it here!

WM-24

I wish I'd kept it as it was whisper quiet in operation and was virtually unused. I was approached whilst I was stall holding at the NVCF about 5 years ago...

this post proves my empirically-based hypothesis (i do not dare call it a theory).

in a nutshell: being all collectors potentially affected by Compulsive Hoarding, there's a basic difference between walkman and boombox addicts. of course it's a matter of degree, but evidence so far shows that walkman collectors are at one time:

1. smarter than boombox fans, as they can easily amass more items into less space;

2. more terminally ill than the above, because of the exponential growth of their bulimia

A boxed D3 is always nice. A very underated member of the DD family, let down by a poor door latch.

Someone has to have some boxed Aiwas, I know you've been buying them

I have quite a few boxed ones, but have to find time to dig them out, as I keep them in a shipping box.

cooldude - 2012-11-23 06:25

@John Edward. Wow!

It's been a while since we have talked. You have build up a very impressive collection. They are all awesome units. Panasonic RQ-JA160 is one of my favorites. I have a couple, not boxed.

Two of your units that peak my curiosity are LG AHA-FD770 and Crown CD-10.

I have never seen a Walkman that can play music from an SD card in addition to the cassette. I suppose you could record from the SD card to the cassette. It would be great to know more about this Walkman like what year was it made.  Knowing your research skills I am sure you have the historical data behind this one . Any chance you can post pictures of the actual unit?

The Crown Cd-10 is a very interesting concept. I have see a similar Sony one but not in the Walkman rectangular shape.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get these two units? I am guessing not ebay.

19lexicon78 - 2012-11-23 10:21

wow,

the boxed ones are the best ones.

Cris, please give me your f2 boxed..

Yes been awhile, Good to hear from you.  Thank you kindly for compliment on my collection.

I actually use the JA160 a lot as the bass boost also boost highs and its got a powerful amp so plays rock music loud and proud!  It is one of my daily favorites.

Here is link to topic I did on the MP3 Walkman only one known to exist.

As to the CD -10 by Crown its identical mechanically and cosmetically close to the Sony D-88 both are the smallest CD portable players ever made.  Sony Licenced Crown to use their design which is very rare for Sony.  I bought both my boxed and player only unit from eBay actually.  No one knows about model so did not have to pay much vs. how expensive the D-88 goes for.

I did a topic on the Crown but the search engine on this forum totally is worst ever seen most of time comes up with no results found... maddening. Cant find my topic but here topic on D-88 and photo of bothD88 and CD-10 next to each other.

CRIS,,, What a impressive early boxed Sony collection... YOU are undoubtedly the SONY STORE HERE !!  The Sony Solar battery charger is so rare , always wanted to find one but never found on yet.  You have most all of the best early Sony models boxed, lucky man!!

See we both have a boxed Fischer PH-10.  I actually am quite impressed with this player and use it now and then.  For its day a good sounding unit.  I got lucky with a red one.  Dont know what other colors it came out in.

AH HAH... CRIS see what you started... now the BBX guys are smarting from seeing the shear number of BOXED UNITS we now termed " HOARDING " Walkman collectors have.

Ah yes #1 TRUE.. we are SMARTER  as One closet can hold hundreds + Walkman while Boomer collectors need entire large room wall AND entire LARGE GARAGE to showcase their gems.  WALKMAN = Space efficient

j/k now that am collecting BBX's (have 15 ) they already take more

space than 250 Walkman in 3 showcases do !.. ouch I need a garage.

#2  2. more terminally ill than the above, because of the exponential growth of their bulimia     WELL NOW the BBX crowd is showing jealousy because we can hoard more !!!   LONG LIVE THE COLLECTIVE HOARDERS OF THE WORLD !!!  Keeping History

Headphone Rocking and Music Booming going into the future.

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK WALKMAN MEMBERS we are showing those BOOMBOX boys  real enthusiasm in this post.  LETS keep ADDING I KNOW MANY members have fantastic BOXED COLLECTIONS.   Awesome topic AO !

johnedward - 2012-11-23 11:52

BEAUTIFUL RARE BOXED units Maurice.   NOW dig out that shipping box full of more boxed treasures I know you have hidden away.  Inquiring minds wanna see.

Bonjour, Welcome to our family of Walkman and Boombox collectors ( Hoarders LOL).

You should post your Item for sale in the FOR SALE section under Walkman.  Definitely take some good clear photos of box and player different angles to best allow members to decide if want to buy.  Photos are so important.

fotofex - 2012-11-23 12:11

Thanks JohnEdward,

I do so, i like pictures as i'm a camera collector, not a walkman collector ;-) (so i can trade it for boxed camera !)

Do you now if the AAA batteries attachment was sold optional ?

Have fun by collecting it's great hobby !

samovar - 2012-11-23 12:25

@JohnEdward

glad to see that you got my previous post right: it shows profound admiration (and yes, a little envy...) for the walkman folks  this is just to add that i love walkmans too, although i only have a couple worth keeping - & just one boxed that is certainly not worth mentioning here

That is TRULY one of the most beautiful shades of Blue/Green ever !

I have had the Sanyo MG-34DT (correct #) from 1983 NIB and bought some time ago a NIB bought from Dealer Sanyo MG-110DT which cost 20% more than the 34DT.   The DT suffix denotes the Tuner Pack models.  Also the Fisher PH-45 is same as the 110DT model as Sanyo sister company was Fisher like Panasonic and National.   The 110DT is also from 1983 a great looker for sure metal face and nice moderately heavy weight.

The 110DT has folding headphones vs. 34DT standard non folding.

Sorry for the hijack

Oh wow, that is a cracker.  The humble WM-100 format has never looked so nice.  Amidst a sea of boxed DD9s & D6C's this just stands out.  What's the story behind this?

I love the way John Edward can just dig out a selection of boxed variants each time someone mentions a rare unit.  Hat's off to you sir.

Don't you just love the understated Sony DD boxes, who needs a picture of the actual walkman on the box?

Thank you kindly AO for the compliment.  Although I don't have a focus in my boxed units such as you Cris with that amazing collection of early Sony's the hardest to find and have IMO, I have a wide selection of few models from each mfg. company.

I also agree among a sea of fancy graphics, color and images the high class simple packaging of the DD boxes sets them apart from the rest as it should be.  Sadly I dont have a single boxed example of any DD unit other than the DD9 which veered significantly away from simply classy packaging.

HUGO you truly have the most RARE selection of the most collectable desirable Walkman anyone could want to own.  And so many of your boxes are in such amazingly great condition.  I know the time you have spent to find such treasures and it shows.   I have to

bow to your breathtaking boxed collection.  The Toshiba mini boomer with detachable Walkman is very rare and to find in a near perfect box too.  Your DC2 box well speechless , true class all the way.

What I have in quantity you have in quality.

This post is actually a walkman fair of granduer that I cannot miss.

Here is part of my collection, 80%, give or take. the original attachment is a high-defination, over 10 million pixels picture. I do not know whether friends here can

download it. if you can, you can see the name of every walkman here clearly.

it takes too much time to put all my walkman in order. I will make time totake more pictures to share with friends here.

are you a majority shareholder @ Sony, Demiwang?

demiwang - 2012-11-25 01:03

John, I love EX20 most, its gracious curvature, slim in size and unique brushed stainless steel body, radiant.  is your EX20 a limited edition?  with its serial number inscripted at the down-left corner.
