WM-25

Got myself a nice little WM-25 on ebay for £10. Outwardly it's in great condition but needs a little TLC.

1/ The volume potentiometer is incredibly scratchy, I hope I can clean it.

2/ There is resistance and a harsh click when opening the cassette door which I'm certain will result in a failure if left this way.

3/ The previous owner stuck a velcro strip to the back and the glue is going to be a bit of a challenge to clean off without scratching.

4/ Lot's of deposits on capstan and pinch roller. The head looks clean though.

Now all I need is some spare time

Here it is all cleaned up. The clicking door mechanism is bothering me though, it sounds very rough and doesn't line up properly when closed.WM-25

The door will probably need to be re-aligned if it can be Is the hinge in good condition?

Thanks. The hinge seems to be catching inside the unit on the left side, just behind the S in STEREO. I've stopped using the Walkman now for fear of serious damage. I might open it up over the coming weekend and have a look.
