Hi all,

I've just bought one of these and can't find much information about it. Can anyone please assist?

I don't know that much about this exact unit, but by the looks of the Pouch and I found a picture of the box on the web.  It is a early to mid 90's aiwa walkman.  What info are you looking for exactly?  Other than the obvious 7 hour long play, Full remote, auto reverse, Dolby B, Center Locking.  Still made in Japan.  Does it have issues like low sound or erratic functions when the buttons are pushed.  Aiwa units a notorious for the capacitors  leaking electrolyte on the PCB which results in poor sound, humming effect, or "crazy functions"  I have quite a few Aiwa walkman since they are my favorite maker.  Hope that helps a little!  As you probably all ready know that battery is no more than a paper weight anymore, since they are sealed lead batteries and they has all gone to the great big resting place for display.  They are the best looking batteries on the planet, at least I think so.

thanks heaps,

I was just hoping for general information such as year of manufacture etc, and any comments on its relative quality compared to other models in the px line. I read that the quality of the px line deteriorated after the Sony takeover, but I wasn't sure to what extent.

So far it sounds good and the only issue is odd issues with the remote, although I'll use my own headphones.

Yes the battery does seem to be a paperweight which is a real shame considering its quality and being a long play 600 battery. Is there really no way to revive these batteries and no commercial replacement?

Yes the battery is dead and there is no replacement for them. I have 20 units that work with them and they all require me to use the attached battery compartment. It is a later aiwa unit my guess is like 1992-1994. The Sony take over really hurt the quality and design of the units. My favorite were the 90-91 px505 better heads better sound. Instead of the dsl they used a sound processor that lets you switch from jazz pop rock etc. you are very luck to have any aiwa unit that works as they all need belts and capacitors at sometime!

Thanks again,

I've had the battery on a multimeter tonight and it is showing around 1.5volts of charge. Its been inside the walkman and the walkman has been connected to the mains through the charging cord for a couple of days.

Does this mean that I have a chance of getting this battery back to full 2v charge? Is there another type of charger that I could buy that might give me a better chance of acheiving that?

I had also bought a Sony WM-R707 that turned up in the mail yersterday and at this stage I prefer the Aiwa for its nice clean lines (and its in mint condition) so I'm really keen to get the Aiwa fully functional.

I've been doing a lot of research into the Aiwa battery issue, and it seems there may be an issue with the contact points within the player not allowing for proper recharge of the battery - has anyone experimented with recharging the battery with other methods, including through direct connection to the DC charger?
