I think it would be interesting to add occupation, age, family, where you live, other hobbies, what you drive etc to the mix. All questions optional of course, but I find it very interesting what a diverse crowd we are. And at the same time it is fun to find other things we have in common too.

billpc55 - 2009-04-25 19:28

sorry guys i cant wait to be picked.
you can keep this on record till you decide to pick me.

1. Are you a guy or a gal?
guy the kind that does not change into a girl for any reason.

2. How many boomboxes do you have (working and non-working)?
how many good ones do i have working. heheh
well all of my good ones work some of them might need a belt but all of them work so 23 the last time i checked.

3. Do you collect boomboxes or already have all you want?
i will still pick up something if its a bargain or if it is a really nice unit.
i do not pick up minis anymore unless they are really hi end.
eggs are out unless they are panasonic cobras.

4. Which brands do you prefer?
i think jvc made the best boomboxes of all the companies. especially for one piece units.
early sanyo was right up there too.

5. Do you have any personal favorites?
the pioneer sk95 i have is really nice. its not the loudest or the biggest but it is really quite a nice piece of kit.
it is a really cool boombox and it sounds like nothing else.
dt707 is right up there too. i know its a egg but man its a really nice portable stereo.

6. What boomboxes are on your wish list?
either a big conion or variant of that box ie claritone helix ect.
of course the big jvc is right up there too. i would really like one more really big boombox.

not really.

9. What kind of music do you like for your boomboxes?
pretty much anything you could imagine.

10. How do you divide time for cassettes/radio/line-in?
my favorite rig for listening is to take the little sony psp i have and use the internet radio on it. the sound quality is extremely good and well i have thousands of stations i can pick from. the range of my airport is good enough i can go into the back yard with it.
line in is pretty much exclusive. allthough i have several hundred tapes. old school dark wave electro post punk and dance.
so i do play them sometimes too.

11. How did you learn about S2G?
i think it was after i got my pc550 i just happened to come across it and i decided to join up. i really didnt want to join any more forums as i have had my fill of them.
at one point i was involved in a musical project that had a fan site with close to eighty thousand memebers and honestly the forum thing had worn extremely thin with me and i didnt want to spend the time on them anymore.
this site was different tho. i mean it seemed more like a actual community. people were pretty respectful too.

redbenjoe - 2009-04-26 00:40

PF very true
- our wanted forum works wonders -- and very often -- Big Grin
but its more 'momentary'

for example --i will guess that we might have 100 members who have at least 5 boxes each -- on the wish lists --

so 500 want ads would mostly get lost/buried too soon --

for me -- every time i put up a box in our sales forum --means that i had no idea which members wanted one -

my 2 cents Smile

panasonic.fan - 2009-04-26 01:01

This thread is an updated (suggestions?) version of your profile, which is quite permanent and available to everyone. We could certainly add a line to the profile to make a permanent place for folks to put up wants.

I don't really follow what you said though: posting it here is less momentary than posting it to the dedicated section for putting up your wants (which for most members change regularly)?

Let's chat in PM if you have further ideas about this.

I believe you meant to say "posting it here is more momentary than posting it to the dedicated section." Nod Yes

While the idea of this thread is similar to the "profile" feature here, the majority of members don't go the extra mile to fill out the entire form.

The idea basically was inspired by my barbershop chorus. Yes, I am a former member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and used to sing with the Nashville Chapter (Music City Chorus). Each week, one of our 60+ members would either volunteer or be called to stand in front of the chorus and just share some info about themselves with the rest of the guys - and sometimes a short Q&A. It helped with the comraderie and strengthened the bonds of friendship between all of us. Isn't that always a good thing to have?

im.out.of.hear - 2009-04-26 12:45

Thanks THAFUZZ Smile Those JC2000 are >fadumpf< my slang word for (Huge) Big Grin
Mblaster,i really never pictured you as you (if you know what i mean) because the name masterblaster is like a teenage name,i thought you were 20 or 30 something with jeans, trainers and a hiphop cap..probebly most people picture me different than on my pic i just uploaded..strange,maybe it is a good thing for peeps to upload there pics to put a face to the name.. Smile

masterblaster84 - 2009-04-26 12:59

Yeah Gettoman I'll bet it would be interesting to put faces with the names. I'm sure we don't all fit the stereotypes of our usernames.

Adam, I've been lifting most of my life and for the last 15 years straight. I typically don't wear clothes to show off so most people don't really know my strenght or size. Not that I really care because I do it for me, everything else is secondary. I'm actually about 15 pounds lighter now than I was in that pic for several reasons. First my shoulder started bothering me pretty bad last October so I've laid of the chest and shoulder workouts until it gets better. The biggest reason is my father just had a Quadruple bypass at almost the same age as his mother, 67. I'm heeding the warning and changing my diet as well as integrating more cardio into my workout, I don't want to have heart trouble any younger than my genetics determine. My goal is to trim most of the fat I've been carrying which should be a big help with a lot of aspects of my life. Big Grin

thafuzz - 2009-04-26 13:04

I'm on that SlimFast & Nachos diet right now. No luck yet. I'd lift more weights if they didn't make them so heavy Big Grin

I know exactly what you mean, Adam! Laugh Out Loud

masterblaster84 - 2009-04-26 13:06

You can take weights off the bar, you don't have to use all 300 pounds that come with it. Laugh Out Loud

Okay I'll give you that Adam, I was a little heavier in the pic I just posted. I'm only down about 6 or 7 pounds from the meet you, Sin and I had. Keep in mind I don't have a large frame which tends to make me look smaller. I'd like to find that 30"-32"" waist I haven't seen for about 15 or 20 years. Nod Yes

You either have the bug and get it or you don't, there doesn't seem to be much middle ground. People who don't get it really find it crazy to want these boxes. We don't get her fettish with shoes, clothes or whatever so it's even.

1. Are you a guy or a gal?
Male

2. How many boomboxes do you have (working and non-working)?
3

3. Do you collect boomboxes or already have all you want?
I don't collect and never have, but would like to put together a smallish collection of boxes (to use of course) that interest me in particular for various reasons. Money in particular, and finding them as well, are serious issues, plus it just hasn't been that high a priority. One day maybe.

4. Which brands do you prefer?
Can't answer really: I just don't have much practical experience with a variety of bboxes in general, especially vintage ones.

5. Do you have any personal favorites?
Donno either, for the same reason as above

6. What boomboxes are on your wish list?
Several: a certain ???? (JVC I'm pretty sure--I just know what it looks like); one of those big flimsy super-jumbos (TRC-975, et al); a Pioneer w/"loaded deck" cassette; one of those little 3-piece Sansuis (FX-700L?); maybe a Superadio; a big Sharp (777, etc); a turntable box (VZ2000, etc); a few others I'm sure

7. Do you have any for sale? Not at present

8. Do you have any for trade?
Ditto

9. What kind of music do you like for your boomboxes?
Nothing specific for the boxes. In general, 80's and early-90's-era modern rock, new-wave and such, makes up most of my listening.

10. How do you divide time for cassettes/radio/line-in?
No CD option? No problem. Smile I don't have a CD box anyway.
Cassettes = 45%
Radio = 10%
Line-In = 45%

11. How did you learn about S2G?
from pocketcalculatorshow, maybe five years ago. I think I found that from an ebay listing, while looking for (wait for it) boomboxes Smile

16. Other Hobbies?
Designing levels, collecting albums, watching footie (soccer in case you didn't get it), reading, growing plants (sort-of, due to lack of a proper place), fooling around at the Kingdom of the Mouse. I used to work with electronics and programming a good deal, and need to get back into it.

17. What do you drive?
Beginning just a few days ago, a '97 Caravan. It's a bit much for what I need, but I couldn't be picky and the price was right for what I got. I consider it an interim car but I may keep it anyway when I get a newer smaller one.
