my recent 5250 buy off epay has put me off epay for good now

the deck is making a real bad loud farting noise when play is pressed

i can hear the music playing low but the noise of the farting is terrible, it goes even louder when ambience is switched on

radio is fine and all other functions are, it hummed a little when i first tried it but now it sounds like it's going to explode

the d**khead of a seller never mentioned this and it pi**es me off.
it cost me my beloved 9191 and some cash, i will never be so silly to buy off ebay again...ever...seems there are some people out there who love conning people...shame

..how long ago did you pay for it? you can claw your cash back in some circumstances..IMO not mentioning something is just the same as downright lying about it so you could feel justified in giving him some grief..

I had something similar happen to my 5150 before. Turns out that the record button had been pressed not properly turned off.

Just to see if it makes a difference... (and this won't hurt anything) but I suggest you put in a blank (or disposable) tape and hit play/record. Then hit stop.

Then, take that tape out and put one back in that has music on it and try playing normally again.

if you bought it days ago and it was ok when it arrived i dont think it was the seller was in the wrong

it was'nt ok when it arrived, it hummed then but it's just got tons worse, it was packed real sh*te aswell

Unfortunately that is what most boombox sellers do.......Write really vague descriptions without mentioning all the unit's problems.......Like if one of the tweeters doesn't work, they think the buyer won't notice.......Like as if a collector paying $200+ for a 30-year-old radio isn't going to notice.

Sorry to hear about this. Unfortunately, most of the folks you run into via Ebay are either not collectors, or worse Ebay abusers who actively observe what is selling on Ebay and hit the pawn shops for cheap scores on items to turn on Ebay regardless of their condition.

It doesn't always end up that way, but it happens way more often than it should.

Most likely you can get that box repaired to work perfectly if you will invest the time to find a good repair shop. Good luck with it whatever you decide to do.

LL, we'll take a look at it and see if we can sort it out. To me it sounds like a clean and some contact cleaner on the switches may fix it.

cheers DT, and PF, ye DOCS i can't understand it cos i can hear the music playing at the right speed and everything, it's just overpowered by this horrible sound which has worsened since you heard it, hopefully it can be fixed cos i do really like the box, i appreciate your offer DOCS and whenever you have the time give me a shout, thanks mate

yep this was the problem, i tried it but i must'nt have done it properly, i took it to member DOCS house today and he hit record and play a few times, cleaned heads and all, and now it's 100% and i am so happy, cheers DOCS

Yaaaaaayyyyy!!!! I had a feeling that was the case... too much coincidence! Oh, and to be completely fair, I think I should mention that Fatdog is the one who told me about this "fix." So he gets an extended honorable mention, too.
