Wow! I just realized why I thought I knew "Dreams," even though I've never heard it before. It's almost the same as "What is Love?" by Haddaway. The two songs are even in the same key!

("What Is Love?" was featured in the Will Farrell film, "Night at the Roxbury.")

Yes!, I never did compare the 2 songs before
but then all songs then did sound the same Big Grin

Smile

I still like the 2brothers on the 4th floor better!

Cool

I like the Haddaway version better... Probably because it was first and it also seems more smooth. Back in the early 90's I was really into this sound, when it was relatively new.

But, I find that much of the commercialized Euro Techno sounds the same nowadays, not much evolved from the early 90s. Groups like Haddaway, Ace of Base, Captain Hollywood Project and Corona immediately come to mind.

This style of techno did not really take off here in the US. Which is a bit surprising because their songs can be played in 3 minute segments and don't require mixing to be "presented" properly. You can play commercials between the songs, so it can be played on the radio.

For me, listening to that style back then got boring pretty fast and almost immediately led to more progressive and deep house sound. But that type of music requires mixing and a club environment for proper presentation. Between the early 90's and now, it was DJ sets by the likes of Dave Seaman, Paul Van Dyk, Nick Warren, Sasha & John Digweed that steered me in that direction.

Nowadays, some of my European favorites are artists like Terry Lee Brown Jr, booka shade, Trentemoller remixing Les Djinns...

JT i have listen to all your links it's pretty lay back, sorta jazz synthesizer, shades of Laurie Anderson.Cool. I only really have Leftfield sort of techo music on CD's.

Music took a big turn in the 70,s when Laurie Anderson came out with "O Superman", and the Dead Kennedys came out with "Holiday in Cambodia," both on the same day here in the UK.
I bought them both. Miles apart but both great. I saw L Anderson at the South bank here in the uk she was brilliant. holograms en all. Hay what happen to them Hologram? sort of died a death.
I was in Aus when the Dead Kennedys were to tour and guess what? They Banned em from entering the country. ( Bad boys from the USA)That was 1970whatever ,not a million years ago.

Leftfield is one of my favorites..! I have Leftism on vinyl. Those samples I posted are pretty laid back. Most of the harder tracks from those artists can't be found on myspace.

There are so many derivatives of house and techno now that it is almost impossible to keep up. Here is a site that caters to DJs: Genre page on Beatport.com

You can listen to some good samples of cutting edge new releases here, and see how the tracks are separated into genres. Its nuts! Downloads are relatively expensive, but still a lot cheaper than vinyl!
