I believe if you're single in order to receive the $600 dollars you must be in the $25,000 bracket. Anything below our beloved Gov. will give a $300 dollar rebate I'm in that bracket wow $300 gee Gov. thanks it's my money any way you're giving me! Mad

daiwa - 2008-05-03 06:01

I should have had mine (~$300.00) direct-deposited yesterday, but I just checked my bank account and there's nothing yet.

Fatdog - I like what you've done with that Sharp - I wish I was at least a little bit as talented. Unfortunately, the only thing I'm good at is swiping my credit card - I can do it now even with my eyes closed - after years of practicing Laugh Out Loud

Jen, good to see you still drop by. By the way, are you from Denver? Just curious.....I used to live in Aurora, but moved to Texas six years ago

Ya, my parents told me I wasn't their smartest son - now I will have to call them and tell them they were right - sorry about the Denver/Colorado *fiasco* Big Grin
And thank you for the compliment Smile

And ya - much to my surprise - I got my rebate check last Saturday.
Here's how I spent it:
- Bottle of cognac Hennesy XO - $240
- Bottle of 21 year old Glenlivet Single Malt Scotch Whisky - $150
- Two tickets to paradise - $210. Unfortunately, the second ticket is not going to be claimed, because my date made me so mad last night that I will never see her again. Back to being single - HA!! Big Grin

Does anyone have any idea why i am single make over $25,000 and only got a $300 rebate?

vladi123456 - 2008-05-21 23:27

Jen,
Here's a short answer:

If you earned less than $3,000 - you get nothing.
If you earned more than $3,000 but paid no taxes, you get $300.
If you earned more than $3,000 and paid taxes, you get $600.
If you have children, add $300 per.

Hope this answers your question Smile

right i made over $3000 & paid taxes & only got $300

jen -- lets re-file //tell them we are married .

(do they check that stuff?? Smile)

Jen,
In that case - check your 2007 tax return. In order to receive the $600 - you have to pay in taxes at least $600. If your tax liability after all deductions was less than $600 - that is why you only got $300.
And then of course - there's always a chance they simply made a mistake, and if that is the case - you need to contact the IRS.
Hope this was a better answer Smile

Dunno a damn thing about your tax system over there, but the only explaination I can think of as to why you're single is that you want to be Wink Smile

As a Brit, I think it's funny/amazing that the powers that be actually give any money back. Wouldn't happen in the UK in a million years...

jvc.floyd - 2008-06-05 07:03

oh their only giving back part of what they took to begin with ,

jaredscottfla - 2008-06-05 10:09

EXACTLY

isolator42 - 2008-06-06 04:53

Sure, I understand that, but getting a tax rebate out of "Those-b4stards-at-The-Revenue" (the only sensible way to refer to our esteemed HMRC)... Blood from a stone is a piece of cake compared.
