fatdog - 2008-04-10 10:14

Damn, these guys are awesome! They're doing some pre-show maneuvers today and I can't get a damn thing done. I'm just watching them with this big-ass grin on my face! Big Grin

Nice! They are fantastic! It's a great show...

I saw them here in Tampa at the Macdill AFB Air Show a few years back.

Enjoy!

Here's a shot from my front yard. Thank goodness for 300mm zoom lenses!

Here's a map of my house in relation to the local airport. I always get a little bit of a show just by standing in my front yard. Wink The green arrow in the lower left corner is me. The airport is in the upper middle.

Really nice pic Fatdog, what kind of camera did you use?

oldskool69 - 2008-04-10 13:55

Being ex-military had it's benefits. Air shows are awsome. I like the Russian pilots and the Sukhoi SU-27/30/33/35/37 series planes. They do things with them that are unbelievable. Eek

See these:

SU-30 Aerobatics

The Pugachev Cobra

I have a Pentax *istDS. I've been a Pentax guy since photography class in high school. However, I'd love to get my hands on a Nikon D200 or D300. Those are really, really nice! Nod Yes

Emily got a free ticket at her school and I bought my ticket today. Hopefully, the coming rain will clear out by Saturday. Emily also told me the Blue Angels did a couple of fly-bys over her school and the kids went crazy! Big Grin

Makes sense, the pic was to good for point and shoot and you referenced a 300mm lens. I just bought my first DSLR several months ago and love it, the pics are a notch or two above any point a shoot I've used. I'm still learning though so it keeps it interesting and a little frustrating. Nod Yes

Nice shots fdog!
I had a similar model when I was a kid:

Those are cool pics Bobby. The Blue Angels will be at my base in June. Needless to say I'll have to provide security on the flightline during our base's airshow for those few days. Last airshow we had Navy, ARMY, Marine and other AirForce planes/jets. With my Secret clearance, I'll be able to stand next to one for pics with my boomer Wink We had a surpise flyby of a Stealth Bomber. It looked like BatMan's jet. Very strange looking/sounding.

Here's a close-up of a shot I took at the 2005 Homecoming Show in Pensacola (no, it's not a Photoshop):

Here's a pic of my daughter Emily at the same show:

Wow! that last pics looks like a KC-135 air refueler (flying gas station). Super pics Bobby. Now I'm getting anxious for the show too.

ford93 - 2008-04-10 19:33

I would love to see the F-22 Raptor in person! Nod Yes

oldskool69 - 2008-04-10 19:39

Has anyone seen an international show? Nothing 'gainst my fellow U.S. flying service members...but the Russians are awsome too. Nod Yes

You are really close, Adam. I'm thinking it was the KC-136. We were able to go in it and then make our way to the back and down the very steep stairs to the tail section. Man, it's cramped down there! Emily got to sit in one of the control seats. The controller giving us the "tour" told us how to use the boom controls and how to use the split angled mirror. Very cool!

thafuzz - 2008-04-11 10:14

Once again, they'll be giving free air tanker rides at our air show. Our Air National Guard base is one of only 2(now)ANG- that train active duty F15 fighter pilots on the F15 Eagle Fighter jet. Approx. $20 million "EACH". We have about 23. The F22s $160 million "EACH" Eek Our Command is trying very hard to get them to train the next generation of Active duty pilots, but to have enough jets at that price for an entire Fighter wing. The maker won't budge on the price. Simply craaaazy prices. I'm looked at crazy asking for a replacement beret for drill weekends Tap Toes

Just flash your Brotherhood of Boomboxery ID with your SPECAT clearance and they'll bend over backwards to help you. Big Grin Hey, it works for me. Laugh Out Loud

The Sun n Fun fly In is this week.As I work at a business right outside the airfield,I get to see the airshows for free. Our building is right near the end of one of the runways.Today the Thunderbirds were doing their maneuvers. They circled around so low I felt I could actually reach out and touch them. Some of their flying was so amazing,it was scary!
