Laptop batterie

walkgirl - 2008-04-08 07:33

hello Smile

I was thinking, is it wise to purchase a laptop
batterie via ebay?, because I was thinking you
hear stories about exploding laptops and stuff,
because the batteries on ebay are only as 1/2 the
price as they are from the manufacturer!!

i bought 2 different batteries for 2 different laptops. there still working great. just make sure there original. both are apple laptops.

walkgirl - 2008-04-08 07:58

Oh yes, but I do not know how to see if
they are the original ones, mostly they do
come from China.

I would love a apple laptop also, but I did see the
prices, and after that I did not want one anymore! Eek

sinister - 2008-04-08 08:17

those china ones are no good. apples are worth the $$$$ make sure it looks like the one you have already.

The defective batteries that exploded were original - Sony brand mostly. So you never know. I personally would buy from my local store - stores always have sales and specials, so the price difference isn't huge.

walkgirl - 2008-04-08 08:25

I did see the original one costs €139,-!!,
and the one on ebay €59,-, I think €139 is an
awfull lot of money!.

In Holland there is no store which does sell
laptop batteries from the counter, only via
special order, and then it will cost even more Frown

I think it is because Holland is soo small

vladi123456 - 2008-04-08 09:34

Wow, €139??? I had no idea batteries were THAT expensive Eek

isolator42 - 2008-04-08 09:49

yeah, I got one for my Sony laptop from eBay & the house hasn't burnt down yet... Smile

walkgirl - 2008-04-08 10:48

Yes, they are that expensive here!! Mad Smile

I think I will give a ebay battery some thought

I think you'll be OK as long as it's a factory original and not a "factory replacement" from eBay. Check feedback and refeences. If Sinister still has the seller that sold him his, maybe they will have what you need. Smile

masterblaster84 - 2008-04-08 13:05

I agree with the views that you need to buy original and not the Chinese replacements. I've seen tests done on these where they did not come close to meeting their specs and the inferior quality means they won't last as long. Smile

I have a 3 year old Compaq laptop and recently bought a 12-Cell HP/Compaq battery for it on eBay. Great experience!

Ebay saved me about $50 over local store prices. The 12-cell battery is awesome! I get about 3 1/2 hours out of it. I was able to watch two full DVD movies and even some of the DVD special features on a recent cross country flight.

I was also nervous about buying one of the generic Chinese batteries, so I made sure to get original OEM. The Chinese version would have saved me another $20 and I really didn't think it was worth the risk.

id buy Chyinese, wouldnt cross me a thought. replacement apple batteries cost a bomb and the Chinese ones have higher mah .
chances are the manufactures ones were made in the third world in a sweat shop for peanuts anyway.

Ned, the test I saw demonstrated that the cheap chinese batteries fell short of their mah rating by nearly 50% with one of the tested batteries and the life of the batteries was significantly shorter as well. These tests were for Digital Camera batteries and not laptop batteries. Buying these cheap chinese batteries is really a gamble, you may get by just fine but you may not. The lower prices sure can be tempting though.

isolator42 - 2008-04-15 09:32

Well, China is pretty big & it's more than likely that one Chinese manufacturer could be much better than another. So yes - it's a gamble, but they are so much cheaper.
Mine was around a third of the price of the official Sony product & gives a good 2-3 hours on a full charge. I'll be the Sony battery would perform better, but not enough to justify the cost.
It hasn't caught fire yet, or anything. Bargain Smile

I did purchase a new batterie on ebay for my old laptop,
and it is fantastic! Cool, the laptop
does work 100% again (also because of my brother
did fox it with a new plastic thingy), the batterie
does last about 3.5 to 4 hours!!! Eek

Oh yes, it is from Germany, it does look exact the
the same as the old batterie which was broken,
so
I think it is a original one!!
