Lost my mom

beatbox - 2008-03-31 09:41

Hello friends. I am in the UK right now after the sudden death of my mother. I was lucky enough to be able to fly over relatively quickly enough to be with her before she passed. She had struggled for years with alcohol addiction and had never told any of her family just how bad it had gotten.

Of course I feel helpless right now, and am kicking myself the entire time for not having done more to help her with her problem.

Please keep in touch with your loved ones. Ask them all the time if they are OK. Be there for them. I could have done better, but realise that in the end it was my mothers choice to face it alone.

I am desperately sad right now, and wanted to share with you guys. I may not be around for a while as we have all the arrangements to make.

My mother was only 52 years of age. Life is too short sometimes, especially when it comes to simple things as making sure your family really are OK.

Peace and love to all out there and thanks for your ongoing support.

Mirko

My condolences beatbox. I too lost my mother in 98 she was 49 to a freak accident. Its good you were able to be there when she passed. don’t beat yourself up about not being there more. Just remember the good/fun times you guys had do not dwell on all the other stuff. Things like this make you realize just what’s important in life. I know its tough right now but it does get easier as time goes by. It is important to know that she loves you and yes life is too short. Be strong my friend we're here for you.

smokinendo - 2008-03-31 10:00

oldskool69 - 2008-03-31 10:29

Mirko, my prayers go out to you and your family. Frown As difficult as it is just know there will come a moment when you will be able to look back and remeber the happy times. And in time you will know that for all the suffering she did while here on this earth, a time will come when you can rest easy with the thought the she no longer has to suffer anymore and is looking down at you with a smile.

So sorry to hear about your mom.... addiction is a terrible thing. The best thing you can do is remember the GOOD things and to forgive..... her and yourself. Then live your life in a way that would make her proud and learn what you can from her mistakes.....

jt - 2008-03-31 14:33

Please accept my hearfelt condolences.

I realize these things are always easier said than done, but try to focus on the good memories and don't dwell on the bad or on what you think you could have maybe done differently. Spud & Sinister really said it best...

Honor her life by living an honorable one yourself and try to learn lessons every step along the way.

This is just a thought and it may sound trite, but you could maybe plant a tree in your yard in her honor. If you live in an apartment or condo, you can get a nice potted plant of her favorite variety.

Best of luck with the healing process.

Sorry to hear that, Online friend.
Know how it is. Lost my mom to the drink when I was 13. She was 31.
Lost my dad also. I was 9 at the time. He was 27.
Better to have then not to have at all. But I think it's a bit tougher when you have someone for a time and then lose them.

beatbox - 2008-03-31 15:37

Thank you all for your wonderful kind words. I am lucky to have so many people around me and the support here is truly special. It isnt easy, but your words really do help right now, so thank you all once again.

We are cremating my mother and then taking here to Paris on Friday to have her rest with her mother. My grandfather who is in Paris has now lost his wife and daughter in the space of 5 years, so I know its very hard for him right now.

We will keep some of her ashes for when my brother travels to Chile soon, as that is where she is from originally.

We will be planting a small tree where we lay her in Paris.

It has been a long week, and will be longer still over the coming weekend. I take your kind words with me.

Until soon.
Mirko

I am so very sorry to hear this news from you Mirko. I know you had already been having it rough lately and I had been hoping to login and see a positive post from you about how things were turning back around.
And now this most devastating news. I will be praying for you for sure. It has been great getting to know you here from your excellent contributions to this group and by pm's back and forth. I am very sad for your loss.

daiwa - 2008-03-31 18:15

Heartfelt condolences Beatbox. Be happy that you were on good terms with your Mom and that she knew how much you cared about her. I meet so many people who have lost a parent and never "settled" things. Lost my Dad over ten years ago, and am so glad that we were on good terms when he left us.

ford93 - 2008-03-31 22:02

Just got to read your thread Mirko, my deepest condolences buddy. I myself I worry about my mom she's in her 70's and I've been noticing a lot changes in her like forgeting things, walking and losing her balance easily and it breaks my heart. I know it's going to be very hard on me because I love her very much even though her love is much more towards my younger brother. I still hold a stronger love for her then my younger brother which he only used her to get his ways. I'am not ready for that day so I know that you are going through a very very very difficult time. Stay strong she's in a better place than this place, I will pray for your mom and you Mirko! Keep the Faith bro'

penge - 2008-04-01 09:48

Very sad news beatbox, thinking of you here in the UK.

masterblaster84 - 2008-04-01 10:17

Very sad news Mirko, you have my thoughts and prayers. It's never easy but you do have the support of your friends here.

It's times like these that puts material things such as boomboxes in proper perspective.
