Freedom of Speech?

joe.cool - 2008-02-27 01:54

What happened to it? The "WOW...LASONIC" thread I started yesterday, to promote discussion from an alternative viewpoint on the new iPod version that's causing a buzz lately, is closed after only four replies. What gives? Confused

Hmmmmmmm, maybe all this negative talk could make some people around here nervous about future boombox developments. However, I think it IS important that manufacturers read the negative stuff also, otherwise we might as well just accept the fact that all we're gonna get from now on are retro looking iPod docks of very poor quality. I know that this will satisfy some people, and folks on here have indeed already purchased their new Lasonics. However, the manufacturers need to know that a higher quality product that stays true to the original products they're trying to rehash would sell a lot more and would certainly be something to celebrate.

These Lasonics and Teacs are a step in the right direction, but they satisfy only a small number of people who are genuinely interested in the products of yesteryear.

Still, I don't have an iPod and am 32, so I don't fit into any market these boxes are aimed at so what do I know...

success - 2008-02-27 04:27

I think is a system error ... Nothing bad happened in this thread ... Discussing a product shields different opinions, and they don't have to agree with it's concept.

ned.209 - 2008-02-27 05:18

something WIEERRRD goin on withall the lasonic threads. quick the corperations have siezed s2g

redbenjoe - 2008-02-27 05:38

agree -- very surprised to see that interesting thread --vanished (or banished)

success - 2008-02-27 07:30

It's enabled again. It's like a christmas tree ligth

Further developments of a BBX won't shield the type of BBX's that s2g members keep in mind ... because people want cheap, lightweigth, rounded enclosure BBX ie an Egg.
This i931 is targeted to a nostalgic market, who feel something about this design. This market would agree with a tapedeck adding, moreever that some eggs and minisystems still include a tapedeck (ok a cheap one).
And altough it's Ipod enabled, I guees that a teenager would prefer another type of music box. The kind of market you will loose if you put a tapedeck, but it isn't the market of the i931.

pepino - 2008-02-27 07:48

i would like to see this sitting on the shelves of major electronic stores and see how many young ipod carrying wipper snappers buy it.

success - 2008-02-27 08:11

It's a relaunch of a retro concept,
Friends of mine looking at my M70, RX5600 or RX5200 think that they are dinosaurs. I said they have line in to hock a CD player or an Ipod, but they still think in this BBX like dinosaurs. They forgot about BBX's, even when many of my friends were born in mid 70's !!!
Ok. the i931 is colorfull design, but it's retro ... I don't think it would be a sales machine. It's only my opinnion ...

enskanker - 2008-02-27 08:15

Sorry, I had shut it down cause of the bad word...LASONIC.

peter.griffin - 2008-02-27 09:16

Thinking it's because there are so many threads concerning the same Lasonic i931?

- 2008-02-27 13:59

You mean we are allowed freedom of speach here? I thought only certain members were granted that privalige? Wink

What's a ipod ?????

success - 2008-02-27 15:00

It's like a tapedeck with a C60000 normal position tape.

joe.cool - 2008-02-27 15:04

Big Grin Laugh Out Loud

transamguy1977 - 2008-02-27 15:05

I think Lasonic is very brave for stepping up to the plate with the I-931 they are taking a major risk.
Lets face it though, they are marketing this thing toward the mass public, so why in the world would it have a tape deck in it, or even a CD player for gods sake.
No offense to the fans of analogue as I am a fan as well but why not let the youth of today enjoy what we had as kids .
So it plays an Ipod instead of tapes , WHO CARES!!!
What matters is ,
they are bringing the BOOMBOX back!
They are not going to mass produce a product to cater to the 25% of the population that still use cassette or CD's.
I for one use tapes for nostalgia only and use my 25 year old boomboxes to do so .
I also like to jack my i-pod or computer into them.
To each is own but I will not be buying the I-931 mainly because it is nothing but a cheapie Lasonic no better than the crap they were making back in the day.
Hopefully if the Idea of the boombox takes off ,other "quality" manufacturers like JVC will produce their own rendition of a retro unit with an Ipod dock.
That would be Cool

peter.griffin - 2008-02-27 15:44

That's true TAguy, maybe this could be the start of something goodSmile imagine if JVC or Clairtone brought back an M90 or C-100F like this. I'm drooling just thinking about it.

I Agree But hopefully they would hide the ugly ipot behind a flap door or something because they just don't fit in right with old skool style no matter what they do so it should be outa sight. Leaving

1. Answer me this of all of the companies out there ?
2. Who Make's a boombox like all of the one's that we are collecting repair'ing and playing with now, not counting the " Eggs shaped one's " ?
3. Whom make's a Square Boombox that all or any of us here would run out an buy right now ???

James thought's: Me I am thinking of Getting a Lasonic I-931 because It's big and CURRENT PRESENT Day ... and Manufactured Just like yesteryear's boombox's were.

Although this is a Cheaper Brand Known for in the Past Maybe this one might have a Little better manufactoring's in it.

After all it has to work like a computer now to be able to read these digit's an such and the digit's are somewhat more stable now as there are not any moving parts in them ....

&&& And $219.00 seem's like a bargain to get a HUGE (NEW) BoomBox... Versus what some of us on here are willing to $$$ pony up for something Questionable on the bay or elsewhwere...

oldskool69 - 2008-02-27 16:02

I don't know what the panic is. IF they do this I believe a cassette will be included. I mean, think about this...The CD was supposed to kill the cassette, and every stereo out there, just about anyway, has what...A CASSETTE! Now we have digital music and MP3's, CD is dead? Nope, now you just make your own! I believe, and hope, that if the traditional boombox, one or component type, makes a comback, it will have a cassette. Big Grin I mean how successful are those ipod crapboxes anyway?

transamguy1977 - 2008-02-27 16:02

I Agree with BEAST69 . put a nice touchscreen where the tapedeck used to be to control it Wink or something like that.

- 2008-02-27 16:05

I like that idea! Smile

success - 2008-02-27 16:27

That annoys me is using a designed audio source like a block. Stop thinking please, make a hole to put an Ipod !!!! It's clear the lack of effort during the design step.
Ok,tape deck forbiden, but an MD deck. Give you the chance of design the audio source so YOU CAN CONTROL THE OVERALL QUALITY !!!.

pepino - 2008-02-27 16:46

im hoping this wont turn out to be an exact ending like the reissue of the ford thunderbird.dead in a few years.im hoping for a much better ending.maybe a vw beetle or a mini cooper run.lets just hope its worth the wait and the bucks.maybe, they will improve depending on the sales, and lets hope for a few move big hitters out there giving us a few more bbx for us to slobber over and enjoy walking around with at the park or by the pool.and lets see how many new youngster join the box wagon.......

moncheeto - 2008-02-27 19:38

well it looks like they where at least trying with the lasonic but i do not think we will ever see any bbx with cassettes everything has gone to ipods and the likes notice jvc kaboom dropped the cassette in favor for the ipod dock
i think the time has come to accept the fact that our bbx will be worth more and more money as years go by and as you see that alot of people are starting to be very interrested in these bbx, so all this other stuff is just pure junk buy for 20.00 at the local walmart then throw it in the garbage its cheaper then fixing........

Closing this topic, as it was well off-topic and kind of pointless to keep open.

For the record JC, I don't know who closed, or re-opened the topic in question. Perhaps the moderator that did will let you know.
