The price of oil... no not THAT oil :)

isolator42 - 2008-10-14 07:48

...I'm not talking barrels of crude here, but the stuff in Halfords (or wherever you get your motor spares from).

Neither of our current cars have consumed enough oil between services for me to need to buy any for a few years. Now my aging, intergalactic milage Ford seems to like a little drink if I enjoy myself too much with the loud pedal, so off I went to get a gallon of Castrol's finest.
"Gallon", that's a laugh. For a kick-off, the can only had 4 litres in it now (UK gallon = over 4½ litres) & now it's THIRTY QUID?!!? There was me thinking I've picked up the most expensive one, but oh no. That one was FORTY FIVE QUID! Red Face
I'm sure it was about £15 last time & the cheapy stuff less than a tenner.

Yeah, I know there's been a bit of trouble with the price of crude latey, but bloody hell... Frown

Sad Iso. It's time to change the "RoyalPurple" motor oil ($7.49 a quart) for two of my cars. I was quoted $91 for a case of 12 quarts. Mad

isolator42 - 2008-10-14 10:09

OK, so the Royal Purple equates to £4.58 per litre. Not quite up to the ludicrous £7.50/l that I paid, but it's not that far off...

I've just checked... you lot in the States currently pay the equivalent of around £0.53 per litre for unleaded - that's under half the price we pay, but ALOT more than you're used to, I'm sure.
If my car was an SUV that got 15mpg, it would be p1ssing me off big time...

gm - 2008-10-14 10:23

try tescos own brand - they have 4 litres of fully synthetic for only £18 (or less for part synthetic)

halfords own brand fully synthetic comes in at £35 for 4 litres and is the same specification

just as well as the porker takes 6.5 litres for an oil change !

My picture is not on there, only from my moped Smile
I was behind the camera taking the picture, and
as it does not take the picture by itself Big Grin
plus that camera did not have a movie function,
when you look closely the picture was taken 7 years ago Eek

I now have a camera with movie function, but
I did not take a driving picture yet, when I
make a vidoe while driving I have to do it with
one hand and that can be dangerous as I have to
film it left hand because otherwise the moped
will not move as the speed control is on the
right, should I have to brake while driving and
filming then I would topple over when braking
as my front brake is on the right ontop of the
speed controll, and as my moped does brake super
well Cool, and that would be bad for my moped
and me all together Frown Smile

Also I have to be carefull while driving away,
my moped is really fast in driving away and I
have to hold the steering with both hands I Agree

I was thinking about a way to film while driving
but then I have to find a way to fix the camera
to the moped, maybe on the lamp or so, but when
you lok closely you see the lamp does point
upwards, would I tape the camere to the lamp
then I only would flim the sky while driving
and that would be no fun for the viewers, also
because it usually does rain here in Holland
so you would see sky and rain, and that is a combination
nobody does like to see in a moped movie Big Grin
No No

Then there is a possibility of a fly or so
hitting the camera while I drive insame speeds
(25km Eek ) and when a fly would hit the camera
and people watching the moped movie would scare
themselves to death, because they do not expect
a giant fly to come at them, that would spoil
the whole enjoyment of a great moped movie Frown

then there is the tripod issue, I have a little
tripod for my camera, but it tiny, and because
of the heavy camera it would topple over with
the slightes breeze, and then my camera get
broken and or film the street and that is what
people do not want to see in a moped movie either Confused

Smile

That is why there is no film of me driving my moped Big Grin Tap Toes

The moped looks like my old HONDA PX50 elestart from 1982!
Looks a littlebit motocross, but it´s automatic.
