ebay-account hacked?

kid.sensation - 2008-09-26 05:48

Hey people.

Today something very strange happened.I came from work and looked up my e-mails at home.

Suddenly i stumbled across a non-spam-mail from ebay stating congrats on my newly aquired Plasma TV.

Well the mail is 100% identic to every other ebay-e-mail.And even the auction is there..with my name as BIN-buyer.

The TV was bought 13:19, when i was still at work.

The strange point is, it does not appear in "My Ebay" under bought Items, but except that everything else is like i bought it!

I just contacted ebay for this matter and hope they will reply really soon. Also contacted the seller stating the problem.

Does anyone of you can verify if this was a hack or a complicated spam-attack?

I hope things will clear up as this TV was about 650€..and such things really suc* and im really really pi**ed off at the moment.

Any further advise or information or do you had a similar thing going on yet?

Ah well, the Link:

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=13025...EOIBSA<img%20src=

looks like there is something wrong with the link but i can't tell what.

maybe one of you can see if this URL is right or wrong as i do not know how e-bay-urls are usually set up.

It sounds like it could be a phishing email... such that if you use hyperlinks from the email to click through to eBay, you would end up typing your password into a non-ebay site.

Then, they'd have your password and could possibly set up fraudulent listings under your name...

From what I hear, this is a relatively common scam and one of ebay's biggest problems.

Similar emails from Paypal are even worse, because that could give scammers access to your finances.

Please let us know how this works out for you!

I Agree

However, I can tell you the T.V you did not buy is a very good one, I have it ! Smile

kid.sensation - 2008-09-26 05:56

thanks for the info JT.

I thought the same, but after clicking the links i did not have to sign-in..i could go to "My Ebay" straight ahead Confused

I hope ebay will clarify this as i do not want to ruin my weekend with silly phonecalls and numerous e-mails.

still i will change my password now, to be better off if they really already got it.

walkgirl - 2008-09-26 05:56

this seems odd!

walkgirl - 2008-09-26 05:57

I could not go straight to the mypage, they wanted my paswords

fatdog - 2008-09-26 06:01

Felix, I clicked on the link but could not find a winning bidder's name anywhere. It just said the auction was ended. If you received the message in your e-mail and NOT in the eBay Message Center, it is a fake e-mail, more commonly called phishing. Never click on links in an eBay e-mail. Always go to the actual site first.

kid.sensation - 2008-09-26 06:07

well i had these phishing-mails before but they always had mistakes in it and asked for password.

This time it did not went into my spam-folder and looked like an actual real mail.

Just changed my password@ebay to be better off if they really got mine already somehow

kid.sensation - 2008-09-26 06:13

getting better..

If i go to www.ebay.de im logged in.
Now if i log out myself i can't login again senseless which password i take.

now im really really mad and im going to call the german ebay-service right now. Mad

fatdog - 2008-09-26 06:24

Felix, click on the link below to retrieve your password:

https://scgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ForgotYourPasswordShow

EBay should send it to the e-mail address on record (unless that's been changed).

kid.sensation - 2008-09-26 06:24

just called and made my point. And if i say i amde my point i mean that i scared the friggin' hell out of the guy on the other end of the line.sure he does not have to do anything with this, but it was matter of my actual mood.

he will lead my information to the security-center and they will completely reset my profile and call me back.

seems like all is gettin fine now.

phew.

Oh and thank you bobby..I tried and it seems to work.
I will wait for the reply of the security center tough to be 100% sure that all is fine.

That's why i called them and made my point.

hope they will react fast.

fatdog - 2008-09-26 07:18

Best of luck, Felix! Smile

jt - 2008-09-26 07:40

Maybe when you opened the email, then clicked to MY EBAY that your password was saved on your system and the culprits may have captured it then. It's good you changed the password!

That's one of the reasons why I never save ebay, paypal, or any other financially related passwords. I log in separately every single time I go to those sites.

moncheeto - 2008-09-26 07:50

man not good these days,,i had problems with that too and paypal scams Mad,,i guess there are people that for some reason do not have anything better to do but to annoy with this type of behavior,,ks i bet if someone did it to them they would not like that Nod Yes

jt - 2008-09-26 08:39

I Agree Ramon...

The irony is that if many of these people would put as much effort into a job as they do into scamming, then they wouldn't need to scam.

To quote the mobster from the movie Johnny Dangerously.... "Those fargin' bastiges!"

ford93 - 2008-09-26 09:33

Hope all is well now KS!
