IKE =Yikes !!

redbenjoe - 2008-09-06 08:32

160 mph gusts !!
14 foot surf----

jared and ramon --both you guys are welcome to wade out Ike in my trailer -- if you want a thrilling close-up :lol

and you guys can admire what will be left of my box collection.
-----------------

here's the deal :
better pray that God keeps this one Mono mode Smile --
stereo will suck --- and wide mode will be a major box disaster Frown

-----------------
for my own brilliant preparations--
i "took those ol records off the shelf" Smile

and instead of gathering batteries , flashlights, water --and all that boring crap --

spending this weekend - attempting to save 500 pounds of great old 33s --copying to tape --and then (if time) to CDs ::

enskanker - 2008-09-06 11:16

You better have the Mrs. look in your ears Ira,
cause seems to me you already got some splashing in your lighthouse..... Smile

jaredscottfla - 2008-09-06 11:34

Frown yep,it def stinks.
Hopefully it'll turn away from Florida but i don't think so. I think we are due,we have not been hit since Wilma... And right now Ike looks way more threatning.
Not a whole lot u can do Guys, just prepare and be safe. G-d willing it passes us. I 'm going to spend the day preparing the boomers as best i can,the crazyness has started ,Lines for cash at the Atm's,lines for Supplies at The Supermarket,Lines For Gas for the cars, just part of livin' in Paradise! Big Grin I'm as prepared as i could be so hopefully all goes well,Be safe everyone!

panasonic.fan - 2008-09-06 11:51

Lines for cash at the ATM's? I guess those folks don't know that Ike is pretty much going to miss FL now.

skippy1969 - 2008-09-06 12:19

Hopefully it will miss Florida.. Cool

jt - 2008-09-06 15:56

I just watched an extensive report on the storm track. Its back up to a category 4 storm now... Cuba is gonna get leveled.

Forecasters are cluess what will happen after it gets into the Gulf.

Florida does look relatively safe at this point, though!

oldskool69 - 2008-09-06 16:06

Well entering the Gulf we have a strong feeling given the way they track at this time of year that it may be 'Bamas turn...again. (Mobile was flooded from Gustav.) Which also means that Mississipi and Louisiana would get smacked down again too. Frown

jt - 2008-09-06 19:10

Wow, I know a lot can still change, but this storm looks like it's pointed straight at New Orleans!!!

ford93 - 2008-09-06 19:42

I don't want to sound negative but I've got a bad feeling, hope I'm wrong.

Folks did not know then, what they know now,i went out in the middle of the night to Atm's,Gas stations and supermkts, and it was ok,yesterday evening,it was a different story you couldn't even get a parking space at the mkt! Just Glad we are out of the cone of uncertainity now,and things look good for us here in Southeast Fla. Cool

jaredscottfla - 2008-09-06 21:26

Nod Yes yep,it's one of life's little annoyances if it gets ya it gets ya,mother nature we mere mortals can't control! Laugh Out Loud

- 2008-09-06 21:35

ooops--

sorry james -- ike took a mini dogleg west -
missed florida --
and may be visiting the gigantic dm4u collection Frown

now, this could be the most serious loss to the s2g box world --since his quantity may be triple the entire 12 member florida collection !!

james -- here is your surviver kit :

first - get some quick insurance for your keepers --

second --get a hundred floaties for same Laugh Out Loud

then -- assemble the few hundred of your non-critical 'oops boxes'

then --
well ya know how fast you can respond with your rapid fire videos and photos Big Grin

and how you long to sell them on ebay ??

ok -- friday night is a good ebay selling time -and by then you will know alot more about ike --

so - get prepared to whip em ALL on ebay --with some attractive BINS -
say "immediate payment required"

---by saturday morning -
you could have $25.000 in your account !!

and still have your dry keepers Smile
-------------------

-- seriously -- hope you are not near that coastline and that ike goes elsewhere --
good luck.

ford93 - 2008-09-11 04:52

Man thats gotta suck having a monster like Ike come to your front door!

DM4U I hope you're ready have that video camera ready just in case!

Good Luck.

baby.boomer - 2008-09-11 06:15

James, please tell us you have a way of protecting that museum-quality collection of yours from the wind and rain! Have you started boarding up windows and/or sandbagging?

Here's hoping that Ike becomes a Tropical Breeze by the time it makes landfall.

- 2008-09-11 09:19

yes I am well protected by building's here from wind and rain and the last time that Houston flooded rita or whomever it was in September 2 years ago I think, all that happened here was nothing! specifically where I live,,, yes around me flooded but this place is on high ground and I am one of about 4 or 5 people out of several properties around here ( grin ) that has a electrical backup for lights an such .
I also have uh, plenty of batteries Big Grin
botteled water Smile and other non- perishables and I just recently re-newed my insurance for a higher home amount Wink
though saturday monring when they currently predict that landfall will occur I'll be at work going north and south and on the north side in my route ( 85 Antoine ) it normally floods up there at near Little-york @ Antoine so I'll see first hand as to whether or not I can get my bus through there or not ...

panasonic.fan - 2008-09-11 09:24

Be sure to make a list of all your radios along with the prices paid for them, and submit that list to your insurance company. Otherwise you won't get any reimbursement from most companies if you have to file a flood/wind damage claim that includes them.

redbenjoe - 2008-09-11 10:20

I Agreewith Pan Fan (as usual) Smile

glad you are not in danger-

and james -- after you take care of those matters --

check the surf !!!!! the 1 PM track just announced an incredible 30 foot waves in the gulf --
(NOT my regular BS !!)

so=== GO FOR IT Laugh Out Loud

grab your 10 foot board and some band-aids - Big Grin
and by all means --
bring your camcorder !!!

you like to make you-tubes ???
well - thats the ONE we want to see.

baby.boomer - 2008-09-11 11:42

James, be very, VERY careful!!

More important than keeping your boomboxes safe is keeping YOU safe!

redbenjoe - 2008-09-11 11:44

Laugh Out Loud
I Agree with BB . also --

you just DONT want to be around when those Houston buses start flipping over Big Grin

ford93 - 2008-09-11 20:34

Just be careful dude I think this one shouldn't be taken litely!

thafuzz - 2008-09-11 20:54

I'm from the Corpus Christi,TX area. My pop still lives there. So does my Grandma, aunts, uncles & cousins. Most are heading inland. I have family in Houston, Galveston area too. Hope they are making preperations for Ike. My Air Base (which sent our Security Forces members to Katrina to help people & keep the peace), also asked if I could be put on the list to deploy for possible hurricane relief for the next one. You know me, I asked to be put on it first. I wasn't called for Gustaff, hope this goes the same way too. Be careful James and Vladi.

jt - 2008-09-11 20:59

Hey DM4U, Flood insurance is normally a separate policy vs. homeowners insurance. Make sure your grails are up off the floor and as high as possible!

redbenjoe - 2008-09-11 21:11

i think our vladi is safe in dallas --

as for you james --you know that all insurance companies want to pay off -- like never!!

any excuse = they are in the clear --
so you NEED accurate sales receipts , photos , etc

dont even think about --
trying to behave 'cool' about this one

good luck

oldskool69 - 2008-09-12 03:57

James if we don't hear from you it's because we hope that you left and actually don't have this piece of electronic gadgetry...a laptop. Don't clown around. I have family there ad old them to beat it. Twenty fot waves are nothing to screw with. No No

As for vladi...the only hurricane he'll deal with is at his local bar. Laugh Out Loud

jaredscottfla - 2008-09-12 04:06

Smilegood luck dm4u

redbenjoe - 2008-09-12 05:42

just realized that our dm4u -- is one of the few of the 6 million houston dwellers --with the capacity to remain high and dry tonight --

ie -- if he piles up all of his NIB boxes at his front door--
he wont need those ugly sandbags Smile

plus --if he can manage to sit on top of them --the 20 foot storm surge may be no problem Laugh Out Loud

- 2008-09-12 05:57

All I know is that the price of gasoline jumped 76¢ per gallon to $3.999 here in Smyrna. WTF?!?!?!? And all the sheeple are doing their best in perpetrating a rumor of gas rationing and having to pay $10 for a gallon of gas. Is Ike supposed to be the end of the farking world? Mad Roll Eyes

- 2008-09-12 16:18

Yep as they are stating on the news here that in the Gulf are that I live in there is about 20 percent of the unitedstates REFINING capacity LOST due to IKE because of shutdown as these are located in TEXAS CITY and PASADENA and a few other area's around here that I cant remember So simply EXPECT gas PRICES to go UP for the short term ... SORRY !!!
Blame it on IKE Wink

there are 6 million residents in greater houston --

redbenjoe - 2008-09-13 06:39

- 2008-09-13 09:10

I dont thinks as I am here using one of my many battery backup's and just to say that all is ok here with just a little wind an rain and we have lost power to the entire city of houston except for those that have power transmission underground ( we dont - its above ) there is not power here whatsoever unless you have battery backup or a generator of which I am seriously thinking of getting from maybe Dallas or where-ever they have power to work the cash register as there is not electricty here what so ever and I am showing people around here what the importance is of having a power inverter to run stuff off of the car battery and such Big Grin Wink as I have one Smile
