...great voices are rare, we lost one of the best Monday: voice-over master Don LaFontaine. If you've seen movie trailers, you've heard his deep, husky voice. And you know his catch phrase: "In a world where..."

Like most people, I heard his voice for years, but never thought about it... until Don made an on-camera appearance in a now-famous Geico insurance commercial.

After seeing that commercial dozens of times, everyone in our family became familiar with the man behind the voice, and we would all shout, "Hey, it's Don!" whenever a TV/movie promo or commercial that featured his voice would come on.

In a world where memorable voices are few and far between... I'm going to miss Don LaFontaine.

It seemed that more and more writers for the voice-over scripts, began them with "In a world..." It almost seemed to be a running joke. One thing is for sure, movie trailers will never sound the same.
