thats a heavily modded sid chipped based com 64.
its sound relies heavily well soley on the com64s sound chip.
the com 64 has been really been exploited in the recently resurging acid house seen. it is a fantasticly cool sounding bassline synth.
the drums on this track tho are coming from that com64.i prefer the bassline and synth sounds. i do think the drums are pretty cool.
this acid track is pretty awesome.
if you are able to build one yourself its pretty cheap to do takes some time tho. recently tho prices for these have been extremely high. its nice to see hardware returning to electronic music again and that there is still people who have kept on the hardware music making path.
this guy is a very talented and experienced artist. his skills are very aparent in this video. i love the filter on the com64.
few people will understand what is really going on when it comes to the comsid boxes but really its the infancy of something new spawned out of the recent circuit bending scene.
grab your glowsticks its back to the acid halls.

i am afraid so.
the nineties are about to become the new retro.
acid is making a huge comeback and new gear is being made by both musicians and companies.

ooh GEEEEZZZZZ.......

billpc55 - 2009-03-03 17:42

yes i am sure there will be forums springing up with retro portable cd players and egg shaped boomboxes.

Acid is coming back? Really? I dont really hit techno parties anymore...

Dub Step is trying to get big, but I absolutly think its a fad. It will go the way of spped garage and 2-step.

I loved two step!

yep acid is really seeing a resurgence in popularity.
recently the tb303 has been selling for close to 2000 bucks. even a xox box the tb303 clone has been bringing a grand or more.
seems that there is other boxes being homebrewed now to do the acid thing.
i think that in some ways it is reactionary to the circuit bending scene. i think many people have decided to go backwards.

what is very cool is someone has taken a twenty five year old computer and turned it into a very unique and excellent sounding subtractive synthesiser.
diy electronic instruments are really a interesting result of the big companies not making what people want.
a company called elektron i believe realeased a sid chipped synth a few years ago and they are really desired collectors items now.

Funny, by the time I got into the two step idea, it was already on the decline in popularity. Went to a dope party in Manhattan at a venue called The Frying Pan. Its an old sunken metal boat that had been pulled up from the bottom of the water and coverted into a club/party space. Seen DJ Reid Speed who was at the time an NYC resident. Has since moved to LA to pursue that new Electo-House-Wobble-Breaks scene. That stuff I think is way cooler then Two Step, IMO.

But, Dub Step? I like heavy bass EDM myself, but with Dub Step I feel like I'm waiting on a break that just never comes. Plus I dont really see people dancing, just head nodding to it. I don't dance much myself but a music scene needs people dancing for it to move on. Thats my revelation to the survival of a "new" EDM movement ...
