Hi! Computer advice needed

SmileHey all.
Need some computer advice,i think i know what the prob might be,but want some input from y'all. My secondary computer( i only use this one maybe two-three times a week,a desktop dell) Started acting weird, the computer boots up,but when windows opens at desktop the computer shuts itself off,i think it's the fan it sounds very noisy, tried it several times it kept doing it,dell is impossible to reach by phone you wait on hold forever! Am i right that the fan may need replacing or is it something more? Any thoughts? Thanks!

If your fan isn't working (CPU or power supply) it will cause thermal overload and shutdown to protect itself. I would start there. Doesn't take long for those portions to heat up. Smile

yes it could be more fan related has hardrive once it fails it fails right away another thing to check also memory will do that also and video problems cause simular problems to may boot ok but have hardware failure just before entering desktop its happen a few times on different computers, i have seen just removing the memory and video card cleaning contacts and replacing have corrected problems like that also, hardrive failures mostly start out with very noisey and very sluggish operation then end up failing and not being able to to boot at all. fans on processors if not working or slow on certain machines will give beep errors, if you hear or suspect a slow running fan then most likely just changeing the fan will correct most problems..

That's what I was thinking... it is booting just far enough to get to the point where it is checking on the health of the fan or an over-temp due to bad fan... and then it is shutting down.

Let's hope... keep us posted. It is always good to know how these kind of things turn out. You know.... learning at the expense of others? Laugh Out Loud Leaving

I leave compressed air containers at my Mom's house (in the country), and blow out all of the dust/dirt/? from her electronics every visit. 6 years, that must have looked interesting. You should have at least entertained us with a picture of it Smile
