for months -- wifey was asking me to put a real functional porthole window in our front door !!

well, many of us , like me, can become very adept at the stall mode when we dont like an idea

i thought it would be horrendous looking.

anyhow -- you know how they can get

so - finally - for last nights gift -- i got a heavy duty glass/brass/bronze real marine porthole kit--and popped that little sucker in.

from the inside/out view -- she was 100% right-
it looks awesome-

but from the outside/in view.............
it gives the local robbers a clear preview of their 'personal favs'

yep its the very distinct chrome mic cover and those beautiful one of a kind tweeter grills that gave it away.

I would let her have her way too, my wife makes me keep my bbx's in the dungeon (basement).

nope --this one did come from ebay -- but, a few years ago --
there are at least a few other AKAs of these bolt boxes --and some variations.

I love the look of the bolt box

and have discovered the fubar part --

using wide angle --we can get the full porthole effect - but the chicks are too tiny





but when we zoom in -- we lose the entire porthole --so what possible good is this :

i had been concerned to open and view this thread as i had misread it instead as satans porthole.
i can see tho ira you have only been using santas porthole for the betterment of mankind.
it is a pretty cool porthole.

well bill --these kids wont run me in

they ALL know me and my teenage son --and now that the 'words out' about our new porthole --

they will EXPECT me to be hiding by it with the camera -- and will be insulted if they dont get in a cool picture !! really

so - the bigger problem is all their fathers know me too

does any member here really KNOW optics and lenses ?

to make the porthole shots worthwhile --it needs a constant wide angle lens with a built in a variable zoom --

and that might not exist ??

wifey is now less thrilled with 'her' porthole gift
claims hubby is not using it correctly
