maybe the first bidder was in on the auction and just did that to cancel the BIN and drive the price up, who knows I've seen weird stupid things done on E-bay. My favorite is when some one wins a used item, that is still available brand new and pays more for a used item than they could have bought the new one for???????

After going back and looking at the bid history, it does seem a little strange that the original bidder placed a $25 bid instead of the $24.95 BIN. The he goes on to run up the bid to $100 at which time he drops out. That is some shill bidding going on - at least in my book. Nod Yes

OR

That bidder is one stupid motherfarker.

redbenjoe - 2008-12-29 06:57

Fatdog-
for ONCE // you are wrong TWICE Big Grin Laugh Out Loud

there was no shill bidding evidence, and feedback shows that the bidder may not be a moron ---

whenever anything is this irrational --
there is often a simple screw-up involved-

like this :
the bidder sees the tape -- loves it - NEEDS it badly !!
totally panics and hits the bid button ,instead of the BIN --
then, when he sees that he murdered his BIN chance --he tries to 'recover' and still win the tape.

thats my analysis Big Grin

might be fun to read other member scenarios Tap Toes

I agree with that.... and once that BIN button was hit nobody else probably knew it was there in the first place.... but I will let you in on a little secret... well.... maybe not a secret.... the BIN price gets shown everytime you bid on an auction.... even if it is "gone" In the email you receive from ebay when you place a bid it will show the current price, the BIN price and your maximum bid price.

I recently bid on two auctions that at one time had BIN prices but no reserve, but I didn't see the auction before the first bid knocked it off. In one case I won an auction for $43 in a last second bid.... and I was shown that the BIN for that item was $40 when it was listed. (The opening non-reserve price was $7.77.... so of course the first bidder did not want to pay $40 BIN... there was a good chance bidding would not have exceeded $40. There were a total of 9 different bidders in the auction, but only 10 bids. If I would not have bid the selling price would have been $41)

The second auction I won for $12.... there were a total of 3 bidders, and 4 bids, opening bid of $10. When I received the bid notification email it showed that the BIN price was $85.

In both cases I place a last minute bid so I had no idea about the BIN price until the very end of the auction. In this case of the tape there are bidders who are bidding multiple times well in advance of the end of the auction... they should be very aware of the original BIN, but it did not seem to effect the ending price any. The winner had two bids in at $155, which means he was prepared to go higher... perhaps much higher...

notice that the seller is also involved in a constant (but less costly) Big Grin screw-up ---

he is not hitting the correct ebay/seller/format buttons --so all of his listings have the starting bid = to his BIN

He must have some kind of any idea what he is doing... or he would not have a positive feedback of 1780 with 100%. Unless he loses money on every sale, but makes it up in volume... Wink
