chancenellie - 2008-08-08 16:19

Hey guys, havin problems with someone sending the wife hoax calls, wondered if anyone had any info on how to trace or idenify the caller, some of the stuff has been pretty nasty and distressing, hope someone can help.

vladi123456 - 2008-08-08 16:57

Sorry to hear that!! Is that directed at your wife personally? Or someone just randomly picked a phone number - and it happend to be your wife's - and started sending junk?
In first case - I would get the police involved.
And in second case - I would just change my phone number.
Sorry - not much help, but that's what I would do! Smile

screen your telephone calls with a answering machine that is let them get all the way through your outgoing message and then if they want to leave a message then you can save that message meanwhile as it is a inconvenience top have ALL of your calls going through a anwering machine it might be a put off as to have such a long and boring outgoing message before the mach actually beeps so that they can leave a message that they (hopefully ) get tired of have to listen to all of that just to leave a message each and EVERYTime /// also meanwhile you can either pick up or not and still have a recordign of that voice to help the police in the idea of trying to trace them ....

Does the UK have Caller ID?

jaredscottfla - 2008-08-08 21:38

I Agree my thought exactly Fd but i guess not.

thafuzz - 2008-08-08 23:07

I agree. Short of "Caller I.D.", change your answering machine to your voice, don't state your names on who the caller has reached ("you've reached 555-1234, please leave a message."). A male's voice only. Let your answering machine do it's job and pick up only when it's familty or friends. Good luck my friend. I've suggested to females on similar calls I've been on, to have a male friend with a "manly" or "tough sounding" voice record a message for them on their machine if they live alone.

UK has caller ID but can be hidden by prefix 1471...

Get BT to block anonymous calls, tell the BT nuisance calls bureau about the problem.
I think the 'no 1471's' service costs about a fiver a month but I could be wrong, and there are some drawbacks in using that service.

Ultimately, and I know it's inconvenient and why should you have to, but get BT to change your tel. number.

Thanks guys, this is directed at the wife via a text / sms message, saying some pretty awful stuff, thats upsetting her which isnt good as she's pregnant with our 2nd child. Its obvious from it that the person doing it knows us both and our daily routine. We have the mobile number but when we dial it ,it goes directly to voicemail. Our mobile provider just says to report it.we want to find out who they are

Here also sometimes idiots call, then I call my telephone company and they take care of it Smile

vladi123456 - 2008-08-10 08:20

Ya, definately get the police involved - if the person is stupid enough to send SMS - the police should be able to trace it.

penge - 2008-08-10 12:34

I argee with vladi123456 If you haven't done so. Defiantly call the cops in chancenellie.

No question about it, if you've got the number just let the pro's deal with it. You never know with these people. Do it now before it goes further.

eddy - 2008-08-10 14:50

Another trick. Hold this to the microphone of your phone a few times.I bet he will stop bothering ya

vladi123456 - 2008-08-11 19:40

Awesome news! Sucks when people instead of getting a better job - or a better looking wife/husband - get all p1ssed off about what other people have.

Luckily her fingers are far too fat for the keyboard.
