TV Licence Warning UK !!

ghettoman - 2011-11-29 04:57

My Advice is PAY IT !! My ex rang me at 6am this morning, the bayliffs were at her house taking all her stuff, because she never paid her tv licence,i had to go to walk down the steet 6.30 and give them £370 to get rid of them..they are rutheless !! well there goes my kids christmas money that i saved//he is going to have an excellent christmas this year..Not !!

isolator42 - 2011-11-29 05:38

True enough.

There's 1,001 different types of 'tax' in the UK & this is just another one.#

Out of interest, d'you know how long it took them to catch up with your ex?

ghettoman - 2011-11-29 05:43

i dont know mate,i think from what she said it was a mix up from last year, she fell behind on her payments last year, she thought she sorted it out,but they kept sending her warning letters, but when she rang up the tv licencing and told them, they asked if she is paying it now,she said yes,so they said just ignore the letters then,so she did..then them lot turned up this morning with a warrant..i keep thinking "thats a nice box or 2 thats just gone forever" i could have bought with that..it makes it worse because if it was something she bought and never paid for, that would be justified, but that money has gone..

coolcol - 2011-11-29 06:03

The best way to avoid it is when you move in new place then dont sendregister any mail to that address. TV licence will send numerous mail for how long you stay there with no name on it. It is when they have your name they hunt you down like wolves and make you pay up. If you get any doorbells etc etc don't answer unless you know it is friends family etc.

It quite hilarious in some way but to others it may be nerve racking.

When we bought our first house, we moved our TV License with us. The house number was 39 & it was one of a terrace of 4, known locally as "Cave Cottages" as there were caves nearby (probably right underneath, knowing how crap the house-survey was!). Anyway, we got TV Licence reminders addressed to "3 Cave Cottages, 39...", which I repeatedly reported as wrong, uneccessary, etc. to no avail. Eventually we were just amused by the progressively hysterical letters about appalling punishments to befall us if we didn't pay up. Finally, heavies arrived, who were calmly shown our TV License & the house number on our front door. After that, the penny finally dropped. Luckily, I've had experience of baliffs & I don't scare easily.

Now computers magic money away from my bank account (aka huge overdraft) for everything & we don't get bills & demands thru the door anymore.

Or that could just be the postman being no damn good

ghettoman - 2011-11-29 07:38

the mistake i made was when i walked in her house i walked straight up to one of the baliff guys and told him he should be ashamed of himself picking on a woman and kids living on her own, called them sad b*stards ect ect..but later after thinking about it,i thought i should;nt have said that, and i said sorry..because actually they was cool fellas, big fat fellas but they were ok,when i gave one of them crap he just stared in to thin air with embarassment,he did'nt know where to look..at the end of the day,he's just a guy with orders,it was'nt him that was taking the money,it was just his job..so i said sorry and we were ok in the end and he actually was on her side,he actually said he went throught the same thing with his mother, and he had to pay a fine..he also said that the bbc/licencing actually prefure if you dont pay because they know they get double plus more cash, and the whole of the money goes straight to the bbc..he said that they are planning on scrapping the licence (dont know when) but the bbc are turning to advertising instead, wish they would hurry up !!! i feel like leaching everything i can out of this country now,i see  loads of asylum seekers round my way,Never worked and probebly never will !! so how come they drive 2011 cars ?? how do they get them from ?? where do they get there nice houses from ?? who is paying for them ?? where do they get their nice clothes and iphone 4's from ? thats what they all have in my area !! i want to ask the goverment straight "how much are they actually giving these people ?" asylum seekers here are supposed to be living off food tickets, soo ??

walkgirl - 2011-11-29 09:17

No tv licence money here!, that is what the hours and hours long advertizements in the middle of nice programs/movies are for!

When here somebody comes for licence money I drive over him with my nice vw

ghettoman - 2011-11-29 09:29

we have advertisements here too nicole, but there is one channel (BBC) that land their bill on us,even though we dont agree with it,but they force it on us..even though we have Sky Tv,Cable,Freeview ect..they are all free, but just because the BBC chanels are included,we have to pay £150 per year, even if we take out the maximum package from sky at eg £55 per month,we still have to pay the £150 extra per year just for BBC Chanels,i bet people in the world think its strange because its only the uk that has this, its out of date, and should have been scrapped years ago !!

Hey nicole, how many miles has your old golf got on the clock ? over 100,000 ?? you should give it a respray and big alloy wheels

isolator42 - 2011-11-29 09:39

I for one, love the BBC.

When adverts happen on TV, as they do far too often, the BBC channels are a refuge for the UK channel surfer.

Surely you've noticed the digital channels (esp. UK's Freeview) have much of their ads synchronised, so that whichever channel you hop to, there are ads? That's why some programs cut to ads only 7 minutes in.

I work for a company who  makes software that runs digital TV channels & it's all on purpose, my friend. Viewers are nothing more than ratings numbers to determine revenue from ads. The programmes are simply there to hold viewers attention until the next onslaught of advertising.

...happy viewing

isolator42 - 2011-11-29 09:51

Financially worst TV viewing in the UK:

Sky+ pay-per-view

You pay for:

- the TV set,

- the TV Licence

- the Sky+ box & dish

- the monthy charge for your Sky package

- the extra charge for the pay-per-view program

Best:

Freeview

You pay for:

- the TV set

- the TV Licence

^i would be lost without sky...and as for the bbc and there licsense fee i resent paying it,they only do good wildlife programs and thats it..eastenders what a load of depressing shite..f%$k tv licsense fees

davebush - 2011-11-29 13:44

im not a fan of tv license either but i bloody hate adverts...they drive me insane......and i really only listen to bbc radio 2 at work mainly because there are no adverts and radio adverts are worse than tv adverts...................rant over

bison - 2011-11-29 14:16

yeah must admit to listening to radio 2,back on the subject of fees, cant remember how much it was but it was an obscene amount that the bbc pay the likes of alan hansen and co to sit on the couch and talk cobblers..no wonder theyre so smug.

ghettoman - 2011-11-29 14:23

They charge you guys a TV licence fee annually and then classified it as a tax and evasion is a criminal offence? Now that corruption at its finest!!

ghettoman - 2011-11-30 02:09

nicole,is that tweny eight thousand 28,000 miles or two hundred and eighty thousand ? 280,000 ? if it is 280,000 that is amaizing !!

coolcol - 2011-11-30 02:21

It is more than likely it is 280000 as works out just over 10000 miles or it is kilometers per year. Impressive though.

I have honda civic 10 years and only done 44000 miles. Very low i think?

ghettoman - 2011-11-30 02:29

i had a friend who had a mondeo,it had 200,000 miles on the clock lol,and it still ran like new..i have hurd of some cars having 500,000 on the clock (thats half a million) and still running fine with no knocks or smoke..

coolcol - 2011-11-30 07:21

It rings a bell this does

old stuff :- well made in general and easily be repaired

new stuff :- shoddy workmanship and disposable if too costly
