So, Is anyone getting the Microsoft Surface Pro?

retro - 2013-02-09 06:53

The long awaited Microsoft Surface Pro officially goes on sale in the US and Canada today, and I can't wait to try it out for myself after reading endless reveiws. I like the idea of having a full OS in a tablet form, but then again, a MacBook Air can also be had for the same price.

I took a few cell phone pics of the desktop while I was down there. I found it to be very responsive, the screen looked great and the text was very ledgable at that resolution (1920x1200). The only downside is the battery life, which is 3.5 to 4 hours. The 128 was also sold out across the US within a couple if hours.

Looks slick Retro...if it weren't for the Windows 8 OS..

Not a big face of that interface

when the pri$e gets down to a more resonable amount in a few year's like around
$300.00 USD then maybe.

Just couldn't resist it's an awesome device, I'm typing from it now, if only someone can find a way to install OSX on it.

How big is it?

I have a neat tablet which I am very happy with!!

retro - 2013-03-16 15:04

A little wider and deeper than the iPad, the screen is about 10".

walkgirl - 2013-03-16 15:07

I do not know how wide and deep a ipad is!

my tablet is rather thin and neat!!

just snagged the Asus Transformer pad with matching keyboard.. the windows 8 tab is nice.. but the price and battery life killed it for me.. my transformer gets almost 12 hours on one charge.. and only cost $350 for both..

walkgirl - 2013-03-16 16:14

My tablet goes also about 11 to 12 hours!!

radio.raheem - 2013-03-16 16:25

I only like the kind of tablets that turn everything into 3d and make you smile

retro - 2013-03-16 16:33

Well, it's certainly not for everyone, I keep a battery pack with me for all of my gadgets, so the somewhat short battery life is not really an issue.

my wife got the RT version (i would have prefered the full fat version - but it's pricey)

she loves it

Back to the Surface Pro, a German friend of mine had one when he visited in Jan, it was quite fun but I couldn't work out what it was trying to be, a big tablet or a small computer.  There are a lot better small computers around and a lot better PC tablets around.  I just think Microsoft are yet again wasting time trying too hard to reinvent the wheel without concentrating on their main failing which is a woeful OS.  SO, no, not a fan.

well it's all confusing... people expect a tablet to be capable of doing alot of things a desktop computer can do... not. But at the same time they want to lay down on the couch. Then there is the price and performance difference...

claret.badger - 2013-03-17 16:38

i don't see the point in tablets full stop

but if people want "they get"

I purchased the Surface Pro to use while I'm at work and away from home which is most of the time. My job blocks log in sites over WiFi, and my android devices cannot use this and other sites upload feature. I have it loaded with programs I use at home such as Photoshop and a few media conversion programs. It's much lighter and smaller to carry around than my 17" laptop, and actually has a faster processor. It may not be for others, but this is exactly what I wanted. Now I can edit and upload more scanned material while on the go.

Haha, my utmost lovely galaxy tab 7.7 has a build in phone!!

I never use it as a phone but it is nice to have that on the tab

retro - 2013-03-19 08:49

Sorry, edited the wrong post.

I use mobile hotspot tethering on my phone, so it's not a problem.

No

kin - 2013-03-20 15:50

lol while I travel by train I see people fidling with their tablets.. either large or just too big to use it with one hand .

I use and type with my galaxy 2s with only one hand and it's typing thumb.
