It's not fair, you pick up new boxes seemingly every week!! Well jealous!!

lav.loo - 2013-03-24 12:36

very surprising that is

deech - 2013-03-25 06:29

It is an average box indeed

(in terms of sound)!

You cant say its totally crap

but its looks are nice !

I  ve got to give mine a good cleaning too.

Claret yours looks so fresh.

It looks like its in top condition

and for 4.99

i think its a very good price

I ve got to say i love the Vinyl LP

Collection below the 9930 also.

claret.badger - 2013-03-25 06:45

the cheaper Sanyo's look so good in pictures

but in the "plastic" - they only have simple controls

and the "VU" is only for tuning

the tape deck mech is cheap

it really is awful

now the bigger M series are something else

deech - 2013-03-25 07:05

It is a basic average box

Its features are limited.

For a box of this category and for this size

is pretty ok.

The M9990 or the M9994 is a completely

another level , you cant  compare them with

basic boxes like  the 9930.

I think all sanyos like this

are meant to be used everyday

from the average customer

of that era 1978-1980.

It is a kitchen , workplace, pic-nic bbox

I guess that Sanyo might targeted

this group of people who didnt want to spend much on a box

anyway and didnt mind using it all the time !

The M9930 is pretty similar with the M9922 box i got also

they even have similarities in how the tape deck works.

I dont know why but this little box just growed on me

the minute i got my hands on it !

Ever got this strange feeling to from a box not so

big or sought after??

Here is a pic i found surfing on the net(from a movie)

and a pic showing it fully cleaned and

needless to say i love it also because as strange

as it sounds its cassette deck is fully working !!

After all those years !

i have a few cheap boxes which i love more than some high ends. one of them is my all time fav -- my one and only grail. so go ahead with your passion my friend, there's nothing wrong with it!

brutus442 - 2013-03-29 12:53

Yes I have...my little Candle box. Crap sound, but I've never painted a room, worked on a car or done yardwork without it...it just resonates "nostalgia"

Yours is a sweetheart Deech! Nice condition to boot!

deech - 2013-03-29 15:30

Thank you Brutus.

Always with a nice word my friend !

I really cant help it with this box

Its the star of the month .

Hello!

this model have a light?  in the tune, for night, i mean.

just wondering.

jagtek - 2014-07-18 20:10

Hello,

Didn't mean to necro this thread, but I have a specific question on the m9930 box. I picked one up at a garage sale for $3.

I cleaned the pots and it works great.

My question is, I want to run my turntable in my garage (a technics sl-1500) into the m9930. I see it has line inputs, so I have my phono pre running in the line inputs.

So How do I change the input ? Or is that only for tape recording ?

   Thanks for any help,  David

I know this thread is old, but I've just landed in this forum and want to defend the Sanyo M99xxK series.

I own a M9940K and a M9930L and they are great. They are portable stereos and because of that reason they are cheap, average sound quality and really strudy. What do you want, a 100$ monster to play in your house, or a cool stereo to carry wherever you go? I agree with deech about the goal of the M99xxK series: to be used in everyday's situation.

Well, that's my point, and I like popular items like these stereos.

retro.addict - 2015-03-07 03:26

I also have an M9930 and I have to strongly disagree with the above comments regarding its quality and sound.

We know it's a small box with basic features, but its build quality is actually very good when compared with a lot of other basic Sanyo models.

It has a very unusual sound. Most small boxes' sound is geared towards the treble, and they have very little bass, which you would generally expect for a small box. This box seriously lacks treble which can make it sound 'dull', but it's obvious that the sound is geared towards the bass than anything else, which gives it a very decent amount of 'thump' for a box this size, without distorting.

Sanyo M9930 in old shape I just played my example

retro.addict - 2015-03-07 06:57

What do you think of the sound, James?
