I second the motion that Cris AgentOrange should return as moderator.

ao - 2013-04-16 01:00

Haha, I love you guys.  Thanks for the kind words, I'm genuinely touched.

This hobby is still very close to my heart so I'll value my membership here as much as I hope you do.  So, I'm not going anywhere.

I didn't make this decision based on anything dramatic, it was more to do with the role, I became moderator in an attempt to maintain order and foster positivity towards those who want to progress their interest and further their knowledge in all things walkman and boombox related.  I didn't become moderator to council and mediate those who insist on publishing every detail of their troubled lives on the web.

There's a lot of members new and old who seem to struggle with tolerance, in order to survive and continue to be the valuable resource for collectors and buyers/sellers then it's vital that people visiting the site don't see stuff that turns them away.  Luckily this site ranks highly when users search for boombox/walkman related search terms in Google but imagine how people feel when they click through and all they see is the crap we've had to witness recently, it makes us look like the comments under a YouTube vid.

Anyway, being caught in the crossfire of constant arguments wasn't what I signed up for, you want to see my inbox this year, full of PMs from members at their emotional limit plus the standard mails from banned members who have nothing left but to run through their limited selection of threats and insults.

Anyway, I'm a family man currently trying to restore a derelict farm in Southern France, where does it say I need to reply to mails telling me to bring a knife whenever I next visit Grimsby or wherever, it's not nice.

So, this can be a great place, use your PMs guys, you don't need to air your grievances in the forum just so you can force others to take sides, it's not fair on the forum.  We're all grown-ups, even Reno, there's nothing that can't be sorted out via PMs or by telephone, it's nobody's business but you're own, yada, yada, you know this stuff.

Anyway, I'm still a member here, it's a great place, you're all pretty good fun & I can't think of any of you who don't deserve their membership.  Lav is a good Mod, OK his job has just got a bit harder, he may have a tipping point, hell, we all do, I do.

As you were

Cris

scottym - 2013-04-16 02:01

Well said Cris... nothing worse than for otherwise great sites to be airing all their dirty laundry.

Scotty

A definite case for immediate capital punishment. I'd be calling Judge Dredd without delay...

johnedward - 2013-04-16 09:09

The levity is great to see Chaps.  And AO a welcome news your staying a part of our community you have done so much to build and maintain.  All your words ring true.  Most of us would be horrified probably to have read many of your PM's over the years.

superduper - 2013-04-16 21:46

OK, I've got something to say.  I've been here almost 5 years but haven't been around that much the past couple years.  You could almost consider me as an outsider now taking an occassional peek in.  I don't know all the politics or relationships or other behind the scenes stuff, or all the hidden meanings behind the pokes and prods.  I never (as I can recall) get involved in these sorts of things...  I just walk away.  But as an occassional visitor, here's what I see and sometimes, it's not pretty.  The past fews days have been like a bar fight and the worse part is that some bystanders are fanning the flames with provocative words or taking sides.   Don't know what happened in PM, telephone, or anything not in the threads.  I know nothing about nor do I care anything about the dispute, I'm only interested in what the rest of us can see.  And from what I could see, AO did the right thing by trying to put a stop to it all.  In my opinion, the participants by trying to enroll the membership to take sides was just downright silly.  How can divisive behaviour ever be good for a community.  Can't we all just act like adults?  And a moderator being one of the participants too?  Regardless of the merits of the dispute, no moderator should ever engage in such behaviour in my opinion.

I come as an interested boombox collector hobbyist.  BOOMBOX.  I didn't come here to see personal drama.  We got television soap operas for that.  The moderators have a job and it's not an easy one.  Juggling and balancing tolerance and fairness is never easy.  There are the regular members, and there are the moderators who due to their position needs to be a cut above the rest and refrain from certain behaviour.  We expect teenagers to do stupid things, but it is and should be embarassing when parents behave that same way.  When the crap was flying, even I could see that AO was the only adult in the room.  Being a good moderator means being respectful all the time.  Not most of the time.  I  hope Cris reconsiders his position as moderator because in my opinion, he has done an exemplary job.  If he decides not to, then I don't blame him and fully understand.  There's only so much abuse that one person can take.  Children are never happy when you meter their candy intake.  However, the solution is not to throw up hands and give children the keys to the candy store.  You might say: "wait, you don't know the whole story."  You might be right, but you would be missing the point.  Most of us don't care about the personal drama.  We come to further our enjoyment and hobby of portable stereo gear.  That's all that's important.

Stereo2Go has relatively high internet ranking and lots of visitors and you guys got a good thing going.  Personally I would hate to see it devolve into something lesser but you guys are in the drivers seat.  It's up to you.  If you guys care about the experience your visitors encounter, then you guys will hopefully behave like it.  If not, then I guess we will see in the future how things go.

Carry on.

retro - 2013-04-16 21:51

Well said Stormin Normin, I wholeheartedly agree,  and thanks.

samovar - 2013-04-16 23:51

agree 100% with Stormin Normin (& retro)

ground.control - 2013-04-17 02:25

"I  hope Cris reconsiders his position as moderator because in my opinion, he has done an exemplary job."

johnedward - 2013-04-17 04:40

STORMIN NORMAN HATS OFF... most eloquently said and with Emily Post manners yet to the point for all.  I hope all members take a moment to read what you said as every word  is good truth.  I too hope AO will stay a moderator he did do all the right things but still got swept up in this cat fight in spite of his best efforts to keep it from becoming so.  There were definite improprieties by a moderator but they should have been privately resolved.

northerner - 2013-04-17 05:32

I too agree 100% with norm...he's among many who feel the same way but he expressed it clearly and eloquently

I would just love for this all to go away now.

Whoever is left please appoint two new mods (or persuade Cris to come back to it!), delete all the offending embarassing threads, and then we can get back to normal, or as normal we ever were

retro - 2013-04-17 11:49

Good idea, I'm going to close this so we can move on, and Stormin Normin pretty much said what needed to be said.
