Rare CLONE maker revealed - PANASONIC

johnedward - 2009-12-02 19:31

I have made a earlier topic on my Jordache Series 120 Cassette AM/FM walkman. Looking through my several hundred walkmans I believe I have determined the model and manufacturing company that supplied the parts for this unusual Jordache promotional Walkman.
I welcome the communities input if this is the clone heritage. The PANASONIC RX-1950 has almost identical top controls with two headphone jacks vs. MIC/Phones and Jordache lacking a tape bias switch. Note the Jordache back plate is thicker to accommodate a speaker.
The tuning indicators are nearly identical except for the recording Panasonic's counter and much better quality door on the Jordache. The antenna is identical with the Jordache moved more to end. Oddly the internals seem different with better quality mechanism IMO going to the Jordache. It still appears most of the parts were supplied by Panasonic but Jordache made in Hong Kong vs Japan for Panny. Lastly the Panny uses 4 AA to the Jordache 3 AA probably due to non recording? To see better pictures of just the Jordache see post JORDACHE
And so the Cloan Wars continue.

The tooling looks the same, shared or related--that's for sure. Now you need a Panasonic am/fm cassette player to know for sure!
I'm interested in HOW you could get the promotional Jordache walkman...?
Either the customer or the retailer had access or earned these. Certainly is an elaborate gift. I had heard of Jordache back then, but in 1977 I thought I was fortunate to have my mother buy me a pair of sturdy LEE jeans for $7.50 a pair (reference to Johns other post on Jordache).

Well taking a visit to pocketcalculator site going back over models/pics fell on the WINDSOR CS-880 which is identical to the Jordache model. Apparently Panasonic sold some of the components / body to Windsor thus explaining many shared parts to the Panasonic. From this picture I would deduce that Windsor is the mfg. of the Jordache promotional walkman.
